Associated Materials is in search of a dynamic Distribution & Logistics Manager to join our team of professionals. The successful applicant is responsible for the shipping and receiving department, planning, coordinating, and monitoring logistics operations such as warehousing, inventory and transportation for the firm and will become instrumental in the forward growth of the company. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain regular contact with Customer Service/Planning Group regarding shipments, backorders and product availability.
  • Manages all freight within the plant, negotiates freight rates with various trucking companies, and makes any necessary changes to ensure the company receives the quality service required to meet delivery times at the most competitive rates.
  • Communicates with the Plant Manager, HR, and Warehouse Manager to administer the CBA and respond to grievances.
  • Responsible for inventory storage, including crates, portables, racking systems and adequate floor space.
  • Provides back-up support to the Warehouse Manager for managing manpower requirements for the department with regards to shift changes, overtime, and vacation schedules.
  • Management of the Warehouse Manager, Buyer, Master Scheduler and Logistics Specialist, assisting them in attaining their objectives in the department.
  • Monitors employee overtime usage.
  • Assist in establishing SOP’s and ensure they are followed and updated as required.
  • Ensure the warehouse is organized according to various inventory levels making products easily accessible to maintain shipping efficiency.
  • Manage and arrange for returns of pallets and products including applicable U.S Customs border documents, issue credit for returns and insure debit/credits are given in an acceptable timeframe.
  • Communicate with U.S. Customs and Border services in addresses border delays.
  • Actively involved in discipline process with Warehouse Manager, HR and Union for employees assigned to the department.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are available to meet shipping schedule requirements.
  • Approves all freight invoices.
  • Approve/reject and follow-up on shipping errors sent in by Customer Service.
  • Provides back-up support to the Warehouse Manager for daily editing and approval of employee timecards using ADP Etime system.
  • Manage pre-built skids and U’s to meet schedule demands, ensuring supplier’s high standard of quality while being cost effective.
  • Works closely with the Supply Chain team to ensure various product inventory levels are at a sufficient number to meet customer demands and delivery times.
  • Responsible for arranging all shipments and the scheduling of products to be shipped to customers with the required lead time.
  • Liaise with Customer Service and Planning Group regarding customer order status.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining OPP products.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a team-first mentality.
  • Experience with MRP and JIT inventory practices is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, operations, logistics, transportation, or related field an asset.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Exceptional negotiation and transportation pricing strategy skills.
  • Advanced skillset in MS Office applications and ERP systems.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor role, or logistics, warehouse, or transportation operations.
  • Vendor management/qualification experience required.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
