Sandy Hook Promise(SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informedKnow the Signsprevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of and reporting to the Vice President, Business Development and Relationships, the Director, State and Community Partnerships will supervise a small, agile implementation team responsible for managing special projects and service implementations that support programmatic research and development. The State and Community Partnerships team will pilot strategies outlined in SHP’s 5-Year Strategic Plan at a targeted scale, with current areas of focus including building and sustaining relationships across assigned projects, scaling services through mission-aligned organizational partners, piloting approaches aligned with culturally responsive best practices, and aligning efforts to foster community support with national analysis of need in alignment with state-level legislative work.
The core objectives of this position are to expand and deepen SHP’s impact among underserved populations and to codify new approaches in program design and delivery.
Job Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Execution
- Consult with SHP’s Policy team and develop state-level partnership approaches that connect the policy roadmap with prospective and/or new program partnerships and local champions.
- Develop and curate best practice strategies to support place-based violence prevention learning project objectives.
- Refine and advance SHP’s existing learning project strategy to include an approach that considers program implementation and partnerships in community settings grounded in the lens of racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Consult with and work closely with the VP of Strategic Programs to define content-specific learning objectives for projects to support the multi-year content and training development plans.
Organizational and Departmental Leadership
- Work and collaborate with teammates from across the organization as necessary.
- Facilitate and maintain partnerships with public, private, and non-profit organizations at national and local levels to develop, integrate and implement learning project priorities.
- Provide recommendations to departmental leadership to inform evolutions in the Program Model based on learnings gleaned from special projects.
- In partnership with Development, develop cases for support, participate in funder pitches and partnership meetings to support the learning project strategy and other special projects in the portfolio.
- Provide cross-functional leadership across to align programs, services, and initiatives to implementation plans.
- Conduct ongoing briefings with internal departments to include but not limited to Development, Federal Grants, Marketing, Technology, Finance and Policy to garner organizational support of projects.
Project and Budget Design
- Design project plans to support scalable program implementation strategies.
- Develop multi-year budgets based on the learning project design.
- Identify and engage 3rd party consultants and research partners, aligning them to project objectives and deliverables.
Project and Budget Management
- Oversee and manage learning project budget spend and allocation based on project deliverables.
- Oversee, coordinate and manage the implementation of cross-functional program delivery plans to include program design, development, delivery, training, and ongoing partner engagement.
Stakeholder Management
- Facilitate internal strategy and project design sessions with SHP stakeholders to design integrated learning projects to match SHP programs and services to local needs.
- Balance and find alignment between program priorities and policy priorities to support strategic partnerships for program implementation.
Data and Reporting
- Conduct asset mapping and community needs assessments to identify learning project partners and appropriate learning objectives for current and future projects.
- Other duties as identified given organizational needs.
- In partnership with Program Operations and Strategic Alignment, develop an overarching measurement strategy for place-based learning projects and institute structures for monitoring progress.
- Have a basic understanding of data literacy and willingness to use and refer to data.
Qualifications
- 7-to-10 years of experience designing and implementing cross-sector partnerships and initiatives (e.g., field, electoral or community organizing, grassroots advocacy, program implementation efforts or campaigns).
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely and develop productive working relationships up, down and across the organization through a remote structure.
- Highly organized with proven experience developing and executing successful workplans and managing budgets on multiple large-scale projects at once.
- Experience facilitating cross-sector program strategies with leaders at various levels of school districts, networks, and organizations.
- Knowledge of and applied experience in diversity, equity and inclusion practices as part of designing and implementing projects and managing relationships.
- Experience managing and leading teams, ideally in a remote setting.
- Strong interpersonal and community-building skills and experience stewarding and establishing mutually beneficial relationships.
- Exceptional data management and strong metrics-based orientation, with demonstrated ability tracking and reporting impact using customer relationship management systems such as Salesforce.
Benefits and Salary Range
The salaryrange for this position is $100,000-$110,000. (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start/middle of the range depending on qualifications and internal equity.)
