Sandy Hook Promise(SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informedKnow the Signsprevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Position Summary
SHP is seeking a full-time Associate Director to identify and create impactful events that promote SHP’s programs, research, and policies; garner media coverage and brand awareness, strengthen community relations, and also help increase revenue, donor engagement, and new supporters.
Your creativity, organizational skills, and passion will help to enhance SHP’s thought leadership and fuel growth through events that effectively promote SHP’s unique approach to empowering youth and adults to prevent violence.
The event manager will be tasked with researching, securing, and producing speaking engagements and events, planning and managing multiple event calendars, assisting with speaker preparation and event marketing, monitoring project timelines, deliverables, and budgets.
The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate exceptional organizational abilities, superb interpersonal skills, and excellent time-management. This work often requires quick turnaround on tasks while managing multiple on-going projects. Therefore, strong attention to detail and project management skills are paramount.
The role reports to the Associate Vice President of Communications and works closely with the Marketing team, interacting regularly with the Policy, Development, and Program teams.
Job Responsibilities
- Research, track, propose, and promote SHP’s subject matter experts for a wide range of events.
- Manage staff working groups, volunteers, speakers, and brand ambassadors for each event.
- Co-create and implement overall planning and strategy for national speaking engagements, local and regional conferences and gatherings, large-scale meetings, and support for SHP’s consultant-led special events including an annual gala benefit and national youth summit.
- Serve as SHP liason with internal and external stakeholders and supervise event production.
- Work and collaborate with teammates from across the organization as necessary.
- Oversee the post-event coordination including (but not limited to) debrief meetings, recognition of participants and ambassadors, as well as any transfer of information, tools, and collaterals.
- Other duties as identified given organizational needs.
- Have a basic understanding of data literacy and willingness to use and refer to data.
- Define, monitor, and achieve event-related goals, metrics, planning standards and policies/protocols.
- Collaborate across departments to identify, secure, and produce events; prepare speakers, develop presentation materials, promotional and collateral needs for each event.
Qualifications
- Clear, concise written and verbal communications and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and expertise.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and lead projects in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and deliverables.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Ability to travel 20-30% of the time.
- High energy, motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- A commitment to SHP’s mission and values.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in event management.
- Proficient at using Microsoft Office.
Benefits and Salary Range
The salaryrange for this position is $80,000-$90,000. (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start/middle of the range depending on qualifications and internal equity.)
