Compensation: $115 - $127K


Location: DoSomething.org has its headquarters in NYC. Preferably, candidates will be based in the New York City Metro area, but candidates in other locations within the U.S. will be considered.

THE POSITION


DoSomething is recruiting a strategic thinking, creative, iterative Director of Programming who will leverage their youth program development expertise to decipher the motivations and represent the interests of young people across the spectrum of identity, as well as iterate and develop our programming consistent with our new strategic direction.


Reporting to the VP of Programming & Impact, the Director of Programming will contribute to DoSomething’s mission and vision by creating data-informed programs in partnership with the Impact team that positions DoSomething as a center of excellence in the cause areas that most resonate with the youth we engage. In collaboration with the VP, Programming and Impact, the Director of Programs, will design and implement a program strategy that leads towards impactful and measurable behavioral change across social impact areas, as well as thought leadership of youth-led civic and cause-oriented programming.


What You’ll Do


Program Strategy (35%)


  • Lead the implementation of programs by setting goals and tracking milestones, incorporating changes, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Advise direct reports and liaise with cross functional teams to ensure program strategy, creative ideation and program delivery are aligned with DoSomething’s new strategic plan and the needs of our members and partners.
  • Support national-, state-, and local-level relationship building to increase DoSomething’s visibility and ensure strategic programmatic growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the VP, Programming and Impact to oversee the program creation and scope process.
  • Support the strategic direction for our programs by engaging in the cross-departmental communication needed for the program development, and execution processes.


Know Young People (25%)


  • Oversee and direct the membership engagement work conducted by the Manager, Member Engagement to innovate and create strategies to deepen youth engagement with an awareness of DoSomething programming. Liaise cross-functionally to develop and deliver both short-term and long-term solutions for growing our member reach via youth-focused, engaging programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Outreach Manager and oversee research, develop, and lead the implementation of a comprehensive partnership program that promotes the expansion of DoSomething’s youth and stakeholder relationships
  • Work collaboratively with young people to facilitate thought leadership as part of a fellowship program and/or youth collective experience.
  • Monitor national initiatives in the youth development and civic engagement sectors, as well as programmatic innovations and best practices to ensure that DoSomething program staff remain well-informed. Incorporate innovations and best practices into programmatic activities.


People Management (25%)


  • Set objectives and performance development goals for direct reports consistent with the strategic plan and linked to performance outcomes.
  • Cultivate a team that reflects DoSomething’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values and advocate for continuous growth and development of reports.
  • Serve as both a manager and mentor to the managers of Program, Member Engagement, and Community Outreach.


Project Management (15%)


Ensure the successful and timely delivery of DoSomething programming by overseeing all phases of the program lifecycle including:


  • Establish and evaluate systems to actively monitor program performance, develop interventions to ensure successful outcomes, and maximize efficiencies between internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor program execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope.
  • Working with the VP, Programming & Impact to set work priorities, supporting the team in achieving goals and objectives.


Qualifications


What you bring.


  • 6-8 years of project/program management experience.
  • Adept at managing competing priorities, and skilled in tracking and measuring multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Mission passion for young people and youth development with the ability to interpret the core behaviors, motivators, and needs of young people today.
  • Leadership. A high degree of comfort and confidence stepping up as a thought-leader across the entire organization. Collaborative by nature with an affinity for working cross-functionally in highly matrixed environments. A discernible passion for developing and mentoring junior team members is a must.
  • People Management. A progressive and proven track record of successfully building and retaining diverse teams, and consistently employing inclusive and race-intentional leadership practices to engage and grow reports.
  • Working knowledge of GSuite, MS Office (mainly Excel), and Hubspot CRM required. Basic budget management skills are a huge plus.
  • Civic action, democracy, or youth development expertise. Must have working knowledge of current and historical barriers to civic participation especially among BIPOC, and other historically marginalized and underrepresented communities
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. AirTable, Smartsheets, Slack) and techniques,
  • Commitment to REIB. An ability to lead across difference and model a commitment to continuous learning and exploration of race, equity, inclusion and cross-cultural competency in the workplace.
  • Thought leadership around knowing young people and a high degree of comfort with public speaking and presentation to build a network of community partners.
