We are on the search for a Director of PR/Communications for our non profit client in the greater San Diego metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will have extensive media relations experience reaching a national and global level along with expertise in executive and crisis communications. You will be creating and developing all communication strategy, creating awareness and engagement for the organization while working collaboratively with the marketing team and executive leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Attend, promote and support company events or tradeshows when needed
- Act as a storyteller for the organization
- Support necessary government or advocacy efforts in addition to public affair needs.
- Develop and execute communication strategy for the entire organization
- Manage and track annual PR/Communications budget
- Collaborate with internal and external teams including marketing department, external agencies, etc.
- Manage media relations strategy through national and global media relationships
- Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on overall communication strategy effectiveness and recommendations for improvement
- Serve as the main media contact for the organization and draft all necessary press releases
- Support and lead executive communication efforts which includes interview prep and crisis communication
- Advise the executive team on communication about issues related to and outside of the industry
- Analyze media coverage and provide recommendations for improvement
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications or relevant field
- Demonstrated leadership/management experience
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Must have extensive media relations experience with national and global media relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Must have experience and understanding of public affairs, advocacy or government issues
- 8-10 years experience in media relations, writing, public affairs, and branding
This role requires a hybrid schedule (2 days onsite/3 days remote). This is a permanent position targeting $80,000-120,000 annually based on qualifications and experience. The company offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, and more.
