Director Of Communications Jobs

Our nonprofit organization client is looking for a Director of Communications with a strong background in media relations to join their team, full-time.

This is a hybrid onsite position in Carlsbad, CA.

This Director of Communications will be responsible for:

• Providing strategic and advisory support to the President and CEO, Board Chair, and other spokespeople with both written and oral communications, interview preparation, crisis management, and other forms of public contact
• Developing and implementing public relations and promotional strategy for organization's trade shows and various international events
• Drafting all press releases and serve as the primary media contact for organization
• Collaborating with and managing multiple agencies, contractors, contributors, and media partner relationships
• Developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy, including messaging, branding, and media channels
• Preparing annual department budget, authorizing expenditures, and tracking project costs
• Creating an annual outbound communications calendar in alignment with other departments
• Creating high-profile music-making and music industry publicity campaigns, including mainstream media and international PSA campaigns to achieve measurable support for music-making and music education
• Strategically reinforcing organization's public affairs, government and advocacy efforts

This Director of Communications will need:

• Deep knowledge of media partners in and adjacent to the music industry
• Strong understanding of contracts and legal issues in the music industry
• Project management experience of multi departmental initiatives
• Love of music, music-making, and the music industry!
• 10+ years (minimum) of combined media relations, copywriting, public affairs, public speaking, advertising, and/or branding experience
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferably in public relations, journalism, communications or other related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience; advance degree encouraged
• Knowledge of the music products industry, associations and trade shows
