Job Description
UCLA Strategic Communications (StratComm) brings UCLA's mission and values to life by inspiring positive action as UCLA's lead storytellers, reflecting the multifaceted diversity of our university and surrounding communities. Demonstrating and reinforcing the university's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all creative work is central to StratComm's success. We believe a workplace culture that values EDI practices is essential to building strong teams, which translates to robust ideas, strategies and creative content that resonate with UCLA's diverse audiences.
Reporting to the Chief Media and Executive Communications Officer and the Senior Dean of the College, the responsibilities of the Director of Communications include but are not limited to, developing and implementing a strategic communication program designed to enhance the visibility and reputation of the College, including advancing leadership initiatives, reinforcing the College's identity among key internal and external constituencies (e.g., faculty, staff, current and prospective students, postgraduate trainees, the general public and higher education community), identifying and promoting narratives that involve previously unheralded student and faculty research and community engagement, and creating and managing a strong and integrated program that leverages targeted media relations (including pitching media and issues management). In addition, the incumbent will prepare a variety of written communications (e.g., media releases, articles, and announcements), respond to media inquiries, and manage and oversee video and photo shoots. All of these functions will be carried out in close coordination and partnership with various units within UCLA Strategic Communications, ensuring continuity and constant communication.
Duties are performed onsite during normal office working hours with the possibility of a FlexWork schedule. Working hours may include weekends, evenings and holidays and may require light travel.
