One Cool Earth is a non-profit organization with programs in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Our School Garden Program works with schools to champion garden education as a way of teaching students hands-on skills, science, nutrition, technology, and environmental literacy.
The Director of Education and Partnerships works closely with the Executive Director, the leadership team and dynamic group of Garden Educators. The Director of Education and Partnerships will be responsible for providing support across the entire organization as outlined below. This role will report directly to the Executive Director.
New Program Development 30%
- Support increased climate education in the classroom by developing a local environmental education stakeholder coalition
- Align and integrate a range of new and existing initiatives and programs that are in alignment with the organization’s mission
- Plan and develop new early childhood education program including curriculum, licencing, hiring and marketing
School and District Relations 20%
- Principal Agreements/MOUs
- Maintain Principal relationships and coordinate contract meetings
- Recruit and onboard new school partner sites for School Garden Program
- Assist ED in maintaining district relations
- Assist ED in maintaining relationships with large donors and Community funders
Curriculum Development 30%
- Develop collaborative relationships with curriculum directors, TOSAs and teachers to assess and advise curriculum development
- Work with the Director of School Programs to evaluate curriculum
- Work with Director of School Programs to develop robust Garden Educator trainings
- Guide the educational strategy and curriculum development for new and existing programs
Administration 20%
- Work closely with the Grant Manager to ensure that grant requirements are
met and budgets maintained
- Connect with other, similar organizations in CA to enhance programming and build relationships
- Regularly meet with the OCE leadership staff
- Support leadership in strategic planning effort
- Represent OCE in large summits or conferences
Qualifications
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, from sitting or standing at a desk for long periods to safely lifting 30 pounds. This position requires occasional garden work.
- Highly collaborative work style
- Enthusiasm for the mission, goals, and purposes of the organization
- Gardening, farming and/or outdoor education experience is preferred but not required
- Experience developing and implementing new programs
- 5+ years of teaching and/or curriculum development experience
- Strong proficiency in NGSS standards and curriculum development
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Emotional maturity and ability to make good judgments about when to seek guidance
- Strong communication/customer service skills, including on the phone and written
- BA/BS in Education or other related field (MA/ MS preferred)
Benefits: This is a year-round full time salaried at-will position (1 FTE). Pay range is $55,000 - $65,000 depending on experience.
