Job Description
Beach Cities Learing is looking for a Director of Education. The starting salary is $85,000 per year.


Beach Cities is looking for a Director of Education for Non-Public Special Education Schools who will work in a school-based setting and is responsible for the overall management, supervision, and administration of all educational programs and services offered by the school. The Director ensures that the school meets the needs of students with special needs and complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.


Beach Cities Learning/Learn Academy utilizes a highly-structured, school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports program that teaches students Academic, Social/Emotional Problem-Solving and Strategies. All BCL/LA teachers and support staff are trained in a unique methodology that assists students with maintaining Positive Choice-Making.

Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as Instructor of Teacher Academy offered to first-year and prospective teachers.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and other regulations related to special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Serve as the lead in curriculum development, adoption of educationally related programs, textbook & online program adoption processes, and any education-based ancillary materials.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor student progress, assess student needs, and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and participate in professional development opportunities for staff, and stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in special education.
  • Assist in school certifications and accreditations process.
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers and other educational staff by providing guidance and support as needed to ensure high-quality instruction and effective classroom management.
  • Develop and implement educational programs that meet the needs of students with special needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional and behavioral disorders, and other disabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with all instructional support team members, including Lead Instructors and BCL/LEARN Site Administrators, of assigned schools to develop, update, and ensure the intellectual welfare of students.

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.

  • Ability to work with people of diverse populations and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Must be able to adhere to a consistent schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of independence, initiative, tact and good judgment.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Must be able to teach all basic skills and interact with students, parents, and administrators
  • Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times, able to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in regards to certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur
  • Effective communication in both oral and written
  • At least 5 years of experience in Special Education, with experience in administration or leadership roles preferred.
  • Good oral, written, interpersonal and organizational communication skills to manage multiple priorities and requests.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s in education or related field preferred.
  • Organized and detailed oriented
  • Safety Care Certification a plus
  • Strong leadership, management, and able to motivate others.
  • Current California Clear Teaching Credential in Special Education or a related field.
  • Professional appearance and attitude at all times
