The Director of Direct and Indirect Procurement supports the Direct Material and Indirect goods and services categories within the North American Region.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, contract, and qualify new suppliers who can reduce TLC (total landed costs) and drive regional localization (where appropriate).
- Direct a team of purchasers covering direct, indirect, and services.
- Identify key risks and ensure proper risk assessments are completed appropriately and promptly.
- A key contributor to the overall strategic objectives of the Procurement Organization
- Direct and oversee a team of five Specialists/Strategic Purchasers and a regional spend of $500+ M
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the direct and indirect material market dynamics and the competitor landscape.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships in collaboration with the Regional and Global Teams.
- Be a change agent and secure capability by engaging with key stakeholders and implementing professional purchasing processes.
- Develop and build key strategic supplier relationships.
- Develop and coordinate stakeholder relationships, oversee critical negotiations, and monitor and improve performance measurements.
- Closely monitor PPV (purchase price variance) to ensure manufacturing costs and system costs are accurate.
- Ensure implementation of module strategy and the Vestas Procurement Process in the region.
- Act as liaison between global functions, key stakeholders, and manufacturing facilities within the North American Region.
- Develop and coordinate regional procurement strategies.
- Implement regional digital procurement strategies, including procure-to-pay, vendor creation, and eAuctions.
- Support regional initiatives to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost across the North American Region for Direct and Indirect value chains.
- Direct and develop a professional purchasing team to deliver current and future business needs.
- Support sales with project pre-calc development while working to increase project contribution margin by strategically sourcing and positive price development.
- Deliver initiatives that provide in-year EBIT contribution, year-over-year continuous cost-out, and control cost of poor quality (CoPQ) recovery from suppliers.
- Identify year-over-year cost-out opportunities, ensuring proper alignment, signoff, and execution within the region.
Essential Functions:

- Advanced written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly in English to Senior Management
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel
- Ability to develop and supervise a tea
Education, Training, and Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain, or similar commercial or technical degree. A Master's degree could have value add but not necessary.
- 10+ years of procurement, supply chain, or contracting experience required.
- Displays high standards of ethical conduct. Exhibits honesty and integrity.
- Proven analytical skills and ability to make business case comparisons for internal and external presentation
- Proven organizational and influence skills. You can demonstrate the ability to influence without authority, leveraging Vestas's functional support matrix.
- Proven track record of leading and developing teams
- Advanced written and verbal presentation skills
- Ability to understand technical language and develop scopes of work
- Ability to perform under high pressures and diverse work environment implementing multiple deliverables
- Demonstrated growth in understanding commercial terms, and negotiation strategy, balancing business profitability and customer needs.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating and closing complex agreements where long-term partnering is crucial to growth.
- Able to travel domestically and internationally based on business requirements, a valid passport required
- Working in renewables would be a bonus and is not a requirement
