Director Of Procurement | Regulated Food Products | Early Stage Startup

Based in Manhattan (near WTC), this direct-to-consumer food startup geared towards new parents is the first of its kind. They’ve created a product that fills a gap in the market and are primed for massive growth over the next few years. They’re looking for a hugely impactful Director of Procurement to own their entire sourcing strategy and (after 6-8 months as an individual contributor) build out a procurement/sourcing team. They have established the full supply chain and have relationships with a few tolling manufacturers; they’re now ready to scale and this role is a critical player in that plan.

In This Role, You Will:

• Manage vendors and suppliers (domestic and overseas suppliers) - negotiating contracts, purchasing products, placing PO’s
• Sourcing/finding alternative suppliers for all their ingredients and NPI (new product introductions)
• Use customer data to figure out what the future looks like based on marketing spend
• Potentially take on logistics/distribution (work with a 3PL), if your experience aligns with this
• Manage KPI’s - cost, quality, on time delivery, food safety - all to ensure a great customer experience
• Take on relationships with current tolling manufacturers and suppliers
• Quarterly business reviews with suppliers (and visiting farms) - travel about 25% of the time, domestic now but potentially international in future
• Build out a procurement team in the next 6-12 months

What You’ll Need to Be Successful:

• Heavy experience in procurement / buying / sourcing in the food manufacturing industry (ideally semi-perishable/semi-shelf-stable)
• Enjoy and have proven skill in negotiation and relationship-building
• Ability to be firm with suppliers while building strong relationships
• Combination of start-up and larger/established companies with great processes
• Strong knowledge of ERP
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment and have some “hustle”
• Experience working with tolling manufacturers/co-manufacturers (ideally in an environment where there were a limited number of manufacturers available OR in a startup environment building relationships without a big brand name)

Plus Skills:

• Logistics/distribution experience
• Direct-to-consumer experience
• NetSuite
• Infant formula experience (or other highly regulated food or products)
• Worked for an ingredients company that’s been a supplier to infant formula
