Job Purpose

Playing a critical role in our evolution to a data-driven, modern audit function, you’ll provide leadership to deliver the established mandate and governance and corporate responsibilities, ensuring strategic alignment of the Corporate Audit function with Audit and Risk Committee expectations.

Your focus will be on identifying and executing opportunities for continuous improvement across all aspects of operations for the function, as well as providing strategic thought leadership to identify key function priorities and driving execution to completion. You’ll ensure effective standard, modern, and adequate processes related to audit approach and methodology are in place and will support the coordination of executive messaging and development of Audit Committee reporting materials.

You’ll define breakthrough actions, set KPIs, and implement daily management activities to achieve strategic goals for the organisation. You’ll support with the quarterly risk assessment, understanding emerging risks relevant to National Grid, and incorporate relevant insight into audit standards and best practice sharing as well as driving the audit planning process and monitoring the internal audits execution according to the plan.

Leveraging on your deep audit, accounting, and technology experience, you’ll provide technical counsel on critical and complex items. As a collaborative leader with intellectual rigor and emotional agility you’ll be able to break down organizational silos and create a transparent, equitable and inclusive environment, where people can bring their full selves to work and unlock their greatest potential and contributions to the team.

Key Accountabilities

You’ll have strong US GAAP, COSO, PCAOB Auditing Standards, Sarbanes-Oxley, risk and controls standards and SOx compliance requirements knowledge and have broad exposure and experience in and comprehensive understanding of audit, internal controls, and risk management. You’re able to synthesize and communicate complex audit topics, have strong project management skills and a track record of leading multiple teams and audit projects simultaneously. You’re a problem solver with strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and able to use data-driven, digital, modern approaches; continuously advocating for the use of technology and data. You can deliver complex messages to both the business and audit teams and can build strong working relationships. You have outstanding leadership skills and can identify and develop high-performing talent. A CPA/CA, CFA, CIA, CISA or other similar professional qualification is beneficial for this role.

Qualifications

  • Solid capability working with a team in a fast-paced environment to meet strict deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written and presentation communication skills – interactive listening, able to deliver complex messages, build strong working relationship across the business and influence others, including executive level stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, COSO, PCAOB Auditing Standards, Sarbanes-Oxley, risk and controls standards and SOx compliance requirements.
  • Initiates, supports and manages change within the organization, taking steps to remove barriers or to accelerate its pace.
  • Strong project management skills and/or track record of leading multiple teams and audit projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex audit topics to both business stakeholders and Corporate Audit team members.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; ability to take large volumes of complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to use data and a cogent problem-solving methodology in decision making and impact assessment. Demonstrates problem solving skills in a complex environment, including demonstrating logical and sophisticated analytical thought processes, interpretive thinking, complex judgement.
  • Steps forward to address difficult issues and guides others toward the accomplishment of identified, meaningful goals.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, including experience in identifying and developing high-performing talent.
  • Uses a data-driven, digital, modern approach; continuously advocates for the use of technology and data.
  • Broad exposure and experience in and comprehensive understanding of audit, internal controls, and risk management.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field (eg Accounting, Finance, "STEM" Majors or Business Administration) is required. A CPA/CA, CFA, CIA, CISA or other professional certification is a plus.
