The Enterprise Platform (EP) – Digital Banking team is seeking a Product Director to lead the Bill Pay platform product team. Digital Banking is the newest of the five enterprise teams in American Express where product and engineering share the goal of delivering customer value with each iteration of a product’s roadmap and increasing the speed to market through strategic automation and modernization.
Enterprise BillPay and Instrument Management’s team mission is to power best-in-class Bill Payment experiences and business growth through innovative platform products and services.
As a platform, we move over a TRILLION dollars in 27 markets covering 20+ of the biggest schemes: (ACH, BACS, SEPA) with a roadmap to integrate with emergent Real Time Rails and hide the complexity of handling money. A critical part of the roadmap is to develop next generation Card Bill Pay and Biller platform capabilities.
Reporting to the VP of Product Management, this role is an exciting opportunity for a talented product leader to drive modernization and enablement of payment capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Syndicates product roadmap and modernization plans with key stakeholders (Product, Engineer, Operations, Business owners, Market Teams)
- Lead the discovery and envisioning of Push Payment capabilities which power key customer journeys, coaching the team to define capabilities, features, user stories and success criteria
- Position requires a willingness to continually learn and implement ground-breaking product and technologies processes within a dynamic and highly matrixed environment to capitalize on the considerable investment made in the payment process
- Lead deployment strategy for modernization, establishing a playbook for enablement expansion, scaling modern BillPay capabilities across the globe.
- Defines and assess product/platform delivery metrics and KPIs. Partners with portfolio teams to identify opportunities improve delivery predictability, time to market, delivery of iterative value to the business.
- Defines market specific BillPay requirements for included in global platform and market expansion releases.
- Lead a team of product manager and owners responsible for Push Payments and market expansion of modern BillPay capabilities
- Owns prioritization of work across multiple scrums teams, supporting sequencing of delivery within the Push Payments and modernization market expansion.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications - Internal
- Proven ability to define robust platform capability delivery plans and roadmaps which service enterprise needs
- High-intellectual curiosity, out-of-the-box, creative & critical thinker with experience in complex problem solving and strategic thought leadership
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external product, engineers and architecture teams to effectively operate in ambiguity and quickly evolving priorities.
- Skilled in sequencing and prioritizing capability delivery across multiple scrums to optimize delivery
- Experience managing direct reports
- Proactive self-starter with a demonstrated track record for navigating complex and highly matrixed organizations to execute and deliver results
- Proven ability to drive change, leading adoption of new ways of working, and leveraging scaled Agile practices to drive product development and delivery
- History of high performance
- A passion for emerging payments, and knowledge of Biller payments capabilities
- Proven track record in leading a Product Team driving large, complex and transformational modernization initiatives.
- Experience in Product Development, Agile practices and scaled product delivery
- Strong collaboration skills – ability to navigate cross functional teams to deliver on shared objectives.
- Strong Agile mindset, experienced in coaching teams to lead technical discovery and definition of features, user stories and success metrics
- Excellent communication and listening skills; ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and make things happen without direct authority
Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
