JOB TITLE: Development and Communication Specialist


DEPARTMENT: People Team


REPORTS TO: Director of Learning and Development


FLSA STATUS: Exempt

Summary Of Position


The Development and Communication Specialist for Meteor Education will be responsible for working with Subject Matter Experts to develop and design training resources, programs, documentation, workflows, and corporate internal communication programs. The position involves creating effective and engaging communication, learning, and training that informs and develops employees. This is a creative, hands-on role.


Essential Responsibilities


Administrative Programming and Systems Development


The position's primary duties include maintaining awareness of instructional materials available in the marketplace, content curation, training, and collaborating with Subject Matter Experts and users to design resources that integrate current instructional methodologies and adult learning theory. The Development and Communication Specialist position will also implement feedback mechanisms and improvements based on input and updates. Additional responsibilities include training, digital design of resources, data analysis, and learning management system administration. The position will also involve collaborating with department leads, marketing, and the people team to establish content needs, create performance standards, and design tools for learning.


Internal Communications and Support


The Development and Communication Specialist is responsible for assisting in hosting question and answer sessions, learning sessions, assessing and providing recommendations for individual training needs, and developing resources. They are accountable for the development and execution of corporate communications via many channels (newsletters, printed materials, social media, etc.). The position creates and maintains a corporate communications calendar, including CEO messages, Town Halls, Organizational Announcements, HR News, and other communications. They will review and edit messages to ensure that they are clear, thorough, on-brand and seek to preserve the company's image. This position will enhance our employer brand through communications and initiatives focusing on culture, values, and purpose in support of the company.


Continuous Improvement and Training


The Development and Communication Specialist plays a vital role in the learning and development of employees through the integration of effective tools such as self-learning, virtual learning, in-person training, and digital platforms. The essential job functions include conducting needs assessments, developing instructional materials, implementing feedback loops, conducting training sessions, and serving as a resource for employees and leaders. Additionally, this position will ensure that materials stay current, accurate, and compliant based on the organization’s changing needs and the evolving technical requirements of job positions. The position requires knowledge of training procedures and techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to formulate learning objectives and evaluate effectiveness.


BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE)


  • Experience – At least five years of instructional design, training delivery, and communication expertise, including technical and digital skills, content curation, measurement, and written and verbal expertise.
  • Education - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in education, communication, instructional design, organizational development, human resources development, general development, adult learning theory, or a related academic discipline

  • Expert industry knowledge to work with Subject Matter Experts to develop technical and professional skills specific to roles
  • Expert verbal communication skills to communicate effectively, clearly, and interpersonally to build relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Expert innovation skills to think outside the box and develop creative ideas that drive business growth.
  • Proficient experience with and the ability to quickly learn content creation software and technology systems such as Mailchimp, Adobe Photoshop, SharePoint, Canto, Jpeg, LMS, and survey analytics


NOTE: All Meteor new hires are expected to attend an in-person cultural orientation which requires travel to our home office in Gainesville, FL. Employees may also be required to travel and attend annual company meetings and events. All business-related travel expenses will be paid for by Meteor per our company travel and expense policy.
