Job Description

As Counsel, Labor & Employment at Kellogg, you will engage collaboratively to enable our business as a subject matter expert providing strategic advice and counsel regarding labor and employment law issues. You will play a critical role in managing external disputes and litigation as well as managing outside counsel. Identifying and proactively addressing labor and employment related risks, we will look to you to as a creative problem-solver who provides excellent service to stakeholders. The role can be based out of Chicago, IL or Battle Creek, MI and will work on a hybrid, in office and work from home model.

HERE’S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING


  • Benefits, I-9, and Immigration Law – You will be responsible for advising on legal issues involving U.S. benefit plans (ERISA) as well as inbound U.S. immigration and Form I-9 compliance. This includes managing outside counsel relationships with experts in these areas.
  • People Leadership – You will train and advise a Legal Specialist. This includes championing, modeling, and enforcing high standards for workplace conduct. Managing team member workload and performance to ensure the delivery of excellent service to key stakeholders.. We believe careers have room to grow and you will play an import role in creating effective development plans for team members to ensure ongoing advancement in skills and capabilities.
  • Labor Law - Advising on matters under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), you will support collective bargaining, advise on day-to-day labor relations and contract administration issues, along with managing any related disputes.
  • Disputes – Overseeing the process of managing pre-litigation disputes, agency charge responses, and litigation, you will manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Employment Law - Keeping informed of new or pending case law legislation and regulations will be a critical piece of this position. This will include the areas of wage and hour (FLSA), leave management (FMLA), workplace accommodations (ADA, Title VII), compensation (pay transparency laws, Title VII), and other related areas.


YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS


  • Juris Doctor, BA/BS, and 6+ years’ related professional experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Related in-house experience at multi-state, U.S. manufacturer preferred
  • Field of Study/Area of Experience: Labor Relations, HR and/or Employment Law
  • Labor Law, Employment Law, and Employment Litigation Experience required.
  • Benefits/ERISA and Immigration experience preferred
  • People management and project management experience preferred
