JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: President & CEO
Position Summary: Reporting to and partnering with the President, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be accountable for the high volume of financial and control of functions of the Company, and develop the Company’s financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing design and monitoring of the Company’s system of internal controls to ensure the accurate reporting of financial results while operating in conjunction with the fast pace of the company. The CFO will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: finance, (including management company, construction company, and individual property budgets, as well as cash projections for all entities), treasury and cash management, property accounting, rent collections and accounts receivable, invoice processing and accounts payable, payroll, and the administration of the Yardi system. The CFO will also be responsible for enhancing management reporting, including the preparation of financial statements for all investment entities and property management and the construction companies, and the establishment of appropriate business metrics and related dashboards. Additionally, the CFO will oversee the external accountants in the preparation of tax returns and investor tax reporting. The CFO will have extensive experience in real estate accounting, including multifamily and affordable housing, as well as Yardi.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop, organize, track, take ownership of, direct, and evaluate the organization's fiscal functions and monitor the performance of the property management company, supply chain management, the construction company, and multiple investment entities
· Act as strong team leader; manage and direct reports
· Develop and implement policies and standard operating procedures across all and growing accounting functions/neesd; enhance the internal control environment across all business processes
· Implement continual improvement of the budgeting process and related monthly analysis of actual results against budget and prior year for all entities, partnering with the property management team
· Enhance the treasury function, including cash management across entities, and the establishment of a working capital account and cash projections for all entities; optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships
· Provide management and investors with insightful and actionable monthly and quarterly reports on each entity’s operations and financial performance
· Oversee the payroll process from collecting time sheets to working with the payroll vendor and executing payroll
· Participate in the analysis of potential new investors and lead the on-boarding of the related accounting activities for new properties under management; support the CEO in the analysis of new debt and debt refinancings
· Be familiar with and coordinate with the property management team on the implementation of new federal, state, and local housing regulations and requirements that impact the Company’s investment portfolio
· Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Company may enter
· Track investor equity positions and cash requirements across various entities
· Lead the implementation of new and updated modules of Yardi
· Represent the company in a professional manner
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Master’s preferred
· Certified Public Accountant
· Deep understanding of commercial real estate, multifamily development and operations, and particularly affordable housing
· Familiarity with Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)
· Familiarity with Yardi
· Minimum 15 year’s experience in real estate and real estate accounting
· Minimum 5-7 year’s experience as a CFO in the real estate industry
· Proven track record of supervisory experience and team development
· Able to work hands on with all levels of the Company
· Experience with taxes and financial audits
· Superior computer skills
