You are an experienced environmental scientist specializing in completing projects under the California Environmental Protection Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the Clean Water Act. You enjoy developing and implementing innovative approaches to resolving complex matters, such as environmental impact assessments, and environmental site assessments. Experience in other types of environmental evaluations (e.g., risk assessment, and site investigation) is a plus. As a lifelong learner, you want to keep growing intellectually and professionally. About The Job


We are currently seeking a Project Scientist for our Toxicology, Health, and Ecological Sciences business area. The position will support multiple clients and projects, with the common theme of using sound science and employing commonly accepted tools for supporting CEQA projects and risk assessments. The day-to-day work will vary and may involve data management, risk assessment, statistical analyses, literature review, fieldwork, and writing. Most assignments will require teamwork, though a few will be entirely your responsibility. This position may offer in-office, hybrid, or remote opportunities based on the candidate's location and the needs of the organization.


Responsibilities


As a Project Scientist, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:


  • Preparing permit applications and interfacing with agency-permitting staff
  • Coordinating tribal and cultural resource assessments and consultations
  • Conducting and/or coordinating biological site assessments and surveys
  • Execution of technical work and client deliverables
  • Developing environmental documents pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Task and project management
  • Conducting environmental impact to include the air quality and greenhouse gas emission studies utilizing CalEEMod and RoadMod


Qualifications


Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, toxicology, or a related technical field.


The ideal candidate will have:


  • Ability to successfully manage all aspects of medium-to-large-sized projects, encompassing the development of proposals, including the development of scope of work/technical approach, budget, and schedule
  • Experience and/or Interest in learning other aspects of environmental consulting including risk assessment, risk communication, and more
  • 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in the technical field
  • Good working knowledge of environmental science
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Experience preparing CEQA and NEPA documents, and associated impact analysis, including Initial Studies and Environmental Assessments
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of California and federal resource agency permit requirements, including NMFS, USFWS, CDFW, USACE, and California natural resource and clean water act and coastal zone permitting agencies and RWQCB/SWRCB
  • Ability to provide quality control of self-produced work products
  • A desire to grow intellectually and professionally
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with MS Office software suite


Annual Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000


An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (determined by title at hire) paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
