Position description


We are seeking a researcher to join the Soragni Lab as a Project Scientist. The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator, team members and collaborators to make significant and creative contributions to our research project focused on investigating p53 aggregation in ovarian cancer in vitro and in vivo. The Project Scientist will be responsible for coordinating in vivo experiments, breeding, genotyping and treatment as well as sample procurement and processing for both mouse and human samples. The Project Scientist will also be responsible to train undergraduate and graduate students to perform animal studies, prepare manuscripts for publications in scientific journals and assist with preparation of grant proposals. The successful candidate should be comfortable with mouse handling. Ability to work independently in a high pace, multi-disciplinary environment is essential for this position.


This position requires a PhD in Cancer Biology, Biochemistry or Biology and at least 1 year of research experience in mouse models. Previous experience handling human tissue is preferred. The Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance, renewable depending on funding and performance. Step is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:


  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing and independently write scientific/technical reports and presentations
  • Contribute to the overall scientific knowledge and skill level of the group through collaborating, teaching, and interacting with group members at all levels.
  • Generate xenografts, monitor progression and overall health, treat with different anti-cancer agents
  • Keep up with relevant literature and identify areas of interest to advance the project.
  • Present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions in a fully independent manner.
  • Ability to multitask and successfully interact with a diverse team of scientists to deliver quality data and results
  • Perform necropsies and full characterization of drug progression and therapeutic effects
  • Coordinate mouse purchasing and breeding, genotyping
  • Must think critically and work resourcefully to resolve problems
  • Lead studies with mouse and patient samples, coordinate sample procurement, develop tumor organoids and perform characterization (IHC, IF, sequencing, mass spec, screening).
  • Work with cross-functional project teams to develop and deploy tools (both laboratory and analysis) to support the project development.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate to accomplish any of the above tasks.
  • Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve performance and data quality
