This Business Unit Manager role requires a high degree of leadership in driving the growth of the agreed upon segment market. This manager will have strategic vision for the opportunities within the segment, leadership skills to lead all the commercial activities within the segment and the technical expertise to support the technical needs and drive the growth initiatives. Market knowledge and insight into the competitive landscape are critical to strategic decision making in the segment. The business unit manager must drive the strategic direction and set clear measurables and goals for the team. To meet the requirements for the segment it is essential to have a collaborative working relationship with a cross-functional team of peers in Operations, R&D, Quality, finance, and customer service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Understand market trends and long-term technical needs to collaborate with the research and development group and ensure our technology is in line with the future needs of the segment
  • Determine appropriate marketing materials for the segment drive creation and distribution of materials as part of the strategy.
  • Manage all aspects of customer pricing
  • Lead the planning process for the segment for annual planning and long-range strategic planning
  • Support the quality team on all customer complaints within the segment
  • Lead dedicated team of Operations, Quality and Finance to ensure goals are executed within the team.
  • Ability to apply 80/20 principles to entire job and team
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Determine the training and development needs for the key commercial team in the segment, including employees and reps/distributors, as necessary.
  • Organize team to provide needed technical support and application support for “A” customers.
  • Drive a SWOT analysis for the segment and define goals to continuously improve on weaknesses and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Develop clear key performance indicators for the segment in line with the long-range plan and the annual plan goals.
  • Recruit and develop key talent as necessary to achieve goals for the segment
  • Define the commercial structure for the market including a clear definition of use of reps, technical resources, and customer service to drive growth
  • Own the segment P&L
  • Develop a detailed growth strategy for each “A” customers and each “A” potential customers in the segment.

  • Knows accounting principles and demonstrates solid math skills.
  • Frequently makes decisions of both minor and major importance, which may affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a moderate degree.
  • Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reads and understands documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Use noncomplex machines and equipment (adding machines, calculators, copy/fax machines, etc.).
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.
  • Utilizes common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, business management, engineering technology, or a related field (required).
  • 8+ Years professional experience in leadership roles
Computer Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint and Access.
