Job Description

The California State Lottery is looking to fill the role of a Business Development Manager.

and Duties:

Under the general direction of the Assistance Deputy Director of Sales, the Business Development Manager (Staff Services Manager III) leads the Business Development Unit, and is responsible for driving the Lottery's growth and profitability - maximizing sales and creating new revenue opportunities. The Business Development Manager oversees the teams responsible for driving sales and revenue via key accounts/chains and increasing the Lottery's retailer base via new retailer recruitment, as well as onboarding and retention programs. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will identify and implement new strategic opportunities that will contribute to the Lottery's growth and success.

Important Things to Note:

-The Lottery is currently operating under an Emergency Telework Program while a permanent Telework Program is finalized. Depending on the start date for this position, this position may start as 100% remote; however, the location requirement may change and in-person presence at the Lottery’s headquarters in Sacramento may be required once the Permanent Telework Program is in place.

-Travel (including statewide overnight travel) may be required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience leading through subordinate managers.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build successful relationships internally and externally.
  • Experience in business intelligence and analytics.
  • Experience driving revenue through new business acquisition and Key Account management.
  • Experience in project management and being a lead or subject matter expert.
  • Experience setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Experience in managing a team of sales professionals
  • Experience using data to solve problems.
