Our Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), Services Practice is looking to hire an Inspector to join our team in Lakewood Ranch, FL. In this role, you will conduct due diligence and condition assessments, landmark inspections, reserve studies, hurricane assessments, and physical needs assessments of existing low to high-rise buildings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in the coordination of subcontractors and testing firms.
  • Conduct field assessments which includes, riding swing stages, climbing scaffolding and ladders, and walking on sloped roofs.
  • Review/Research and familiarity with building codes and construction standards.
  • Prepare written narrative and templated reports with photographs, tables, and exhibits.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, and warranties with contract documents.
  • Prepare cost estimating.
  • Keeping organized records including detailed field notes and photographs.
  • Develop pre-inspection plans.
  • Versed in communicating with clients.
  • Conduct and prepare structural milestone reports, reserve studies, condition assessments, forensic engineering reports, and post-hurricane damage assessments.
  • Research property information.

Education and Certifications

  • Home Inspector License / Certification is a plus.
  • Minimum two-year degree in engineering, construction management, or related experience and certifications in building inspections.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE), preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in estimating is preferred.
  • Must be outgoing and able to interact with staff, clients, and home/business owners.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry and housing building code experience required.
  • You must possess excellent verbal and communication skills and technical writing abilities.
  • Job site and office time are split approximately 50/50.
  • Good report writing skills with the ability to develop and commit to budgets, scopes, and deadlines.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are a must.
  • Must have housing building code experience.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in MS office products, including Word and Excel, and Blue Beam is required.

Physical Demands- Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. In addition, climb ladders, walk on roofs, work from elevated platforms(scaffolding), enter and work in a confined area, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, and use safety equipment. The position requires the ability to speak, write, and communicate clearly. Employees may lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Overtime - This position is salaried with exempt FLSA status. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements – 40%, project locations will vary and will require some out of town travel (mostly day trips). Overnight travel may be required on occasion.

This is a remote position reporting to the office on occasion as needed.
