Qualifications Of The Position Include

Utility – Wet & Dry

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or NICET Certification, and experience with highway and/or bridge construction as follows:

Experience with NYSDOT SiteManager reporting software a plus for DOT projects.

Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and any special requirements

Operational knowledge of field inspection equipment

Good oral and written communication skills

Level II Inspector : minimum of two years’ related experience.

Confer, communicate, and speak with property owners regarding project schedule, hazards and inconvenience; demonstrate strong project knowledge and excellent customer service.

Coordinate work with other City departments and utilities; process, submit, and deliver timely contractor payments.

Schedule service interruption with least interference and least inconvenience to properties.

Prepare as built plans for completed projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.

Experience with Prolog Construction Management software is preferred.

Bachelors’ degree in Construction Management or Engineering of related industry is preferred but not required.

Must have experience with highway or bridge construction.

Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills

OSHA 10 Hour Certification is required.

DEQ Dual Inspector; Bridge and Roadway Construction certification is preferred.

Associate's degree program in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required

NICET level II certification is strongly preferred

1+ years of professional construction inspection experience, including experience with work zone traffic control

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English

Experience and familiarity with New York State Department of Transportation projects

OSHA 10 training certification, minimum

Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and any special requirements

Operational knowledge of field inspection equipment

Good oral and written communication skills

LA DOTD Certification (Structural, PCCP, or Embankments)

OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety training

Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification.

Florida Registered Architect or a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer in the discipline requested PLUS two (2) years of HVHZ experience OR

persons with experience outside of these counties in Florida or elsewhere in the US will not qualify.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Confers with architects, engineers, general contractors, attorneys, property owners and others regarding inspections, building materials and practices, and code enforcement matters

Inspects alteration and repair jobs; checks roof and foundation connections for building additions

Observe and recognize unsafe practices, and where appropriate, request their correction by the contractors’ on-site representative;

Monitor contractors’ actual progress against scheduled progress and record on Daily Inspection Reports;

Record contractors’ job-site equipment and manpower;

Supervisory or managerial experience with groups of 8-12 direct reports.

Experience with public speaking and presentation.

Experience in Mobile home industry/construction industry providing guidance to subordinates, the public/contractors/building departments on codes, regulations and enforcement.

General construction experience, residential building experience.

Experience with construction code enforcement or inspections.

Experience using Microsoft Office programs to conduct business.
