Overview Building Inspectors are responsible for ensuring that all buildings and structures meet local, state, and federal building codes and regulations. They inspect new construction, remodeling projects, and existing buildings to ensure that they are safe and up to code. They also provide advice and guidance to builders, contractors, and property owners on how to comply with building codes. Detailed Job Description Building Inspectors are responsible for conducting inspections of new construction, remodeling projects, and existing buildings to ensure that they meet local, state, and federal building codes and regulations. They inspect the structural integrity of buildings, including the foundation, walls, floors, and roof, as well as the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. They also inspect the interior and exterior of buildings to ensure that they are safe and up to code. Building Inspectors must be knowledgeable of all applicable building codes and regulations, and they must be able to interpret and explain them to builders, contractors, and property owners. They must also be able to identify any potential safety hazards and provide advice and guidance on how to correct them.
