The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Biobank Resource for Investigating Disease, Genes and the Environment (BRIDGE) seeks to hire an experienced and skilled Information Technology Director to lead and manage all IT-related aspects of the automated facility, including systems integration, informatics and other data integrations, and liaise on desktop, server, and facilities support for all system components. The BRIDGE, a state-of-the-art automated biobanking laboratory and storage facility, was created to provide a centralized resource for processing, storage and distribution of biological specimens, biomarkers, and health data for Columbia University investigators for use in biomedical research.
Responsibilities
Technical, Including Analytical and Research Support (75%)
Oversee existing BRIDGE IT analyst team, who is responsible for coordinating all OpenSpecimen components of BRIDGE, including:
the implementation and appropriate use of accessory items (box scanners, iPADs, etc) for all BRIDGE users
development of new OpenSpecimen features
development and implementation of SOPs for BRIDGE accessory items
Oversee connectivity to the Institutional Clinical Data Warehouse and REDCap.
Oversee consolidation of other research data sources used by BRIDGE stakeholders.
Work with stakeholders to ensure proper use of BRIDGE facility security and monitoring systems.
Work with BRIDGE IT Manager and analyst team to develop and implement OpenSpecimen (Biobank Information System)-based cross implementation querying and reporting functionality.
Work with BRIDGE stakeholders to design and implement standard use procedures to support all laboratory practice.
Develop and implementation of standard access policies for BRIDGE facility and service use.
Liaise with other programs and departments at CUIMC to ensure success of new facility.
Troubleshoot issues across projects (including technical or process errors) to identify root causes and opportunities for improvements.
Develop knowledge of data governance and best practices.
Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with informatics and cross-functional staff and collaborators, both within and external to CUIMC.
Participate in training on facility-related informatics and BRIDGE/CUB applications and tools. Contribute to the development of training materials and process documentation.
Assist in preparation of publications and presentations when needed.
Contribute to institutional efforts to integrate and manage research data.
Project Management (25%)
Liaise with CUIMC IT and Path IT to project manage all IT-related communication for new facility.
Implement and oversee communications between Azenta freezer and OpenSpecimen.
Monitor freezer robotics to ensure regular data updates occur as designed.
Work with CUIMC IT, Azenta, BRIDGE/BMIR IT, to ensure effective integration and error free communication among systems.
Assist with development and oversight of monitoring system for data accuracy.
Ensure Azenta freezer systems stay online and communications between freezer, vendor and data system stay online, and work as designed.
Oversee systems and data integration.
Assist in defining work requirements for new projects and monitoring the scope of assigned work within an ongoing project. This includes working with internal and external collaborators.
Analyze and resolve issues that have the potential to jeopardize agreed upon deliverables.
Manage BRIDGE IT analyst team, including hiring and training of new staff.
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (preferably in the Biological Sciences field) with demonstrable computational skills; or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or in other Informatics disciplines) or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated interest in Biology/Genomics.
Familiarity with database and/or systems administration, and with relational database design and data integration principles, programming languages (such as Python), and data transfer techniques.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience with clinical data, clinical research and electronic health records.
Experience with broader biomedical informatics practices including medical computing, terminology (ICD9, CPT, etc.) and healthcare processes.
Experience with clinical laboratory computing a plus.
Experience with Business Intelligence reporting a plus.
