Starting compensation range for this opportunity is $28.00 to $38.00 per hour
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Auxiliary Operator (AO) assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. The AO carries out all routine water/gas chemistry analysis, inspects and monitors operating components and reports plant status.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Perform operating tests and inspections, and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned to achieve proper operating conditions
- Maintain logs as assigned
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the Control Room Operator, Shift Supervisor, or the Operations Manager
- Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels for clearing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures; clear, tag, test and safety tape these operations
- Operate heavy equipment to maintain fuel supply to the station in the event of a casualty to the automated dual feed system
- Operate major auxiliary apparatus such as: air compressors, circulating water systems, boiler feed-water treatment system, waste water systems, generator cooling system, boiler feed-water and condensate systems, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment
- Assist maintenance personnel during maintenance periods
- Perform routine water chemistry analysis and operate Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) equipment
- Assist in start-up, shutdown and normal operations of power plant systems
- Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Auxiliary Operator reports to the Operations Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
- Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
- Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
COMPENSATION
Starting compensation range for this opportunity is $28.00 to $38.00 per hour
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of the power plant industry
- Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Experience in power plant operations is highly desired
- Demonstrated proficiency in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations, and chemical handling requirements
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of plant parameters
