Job Description
Who we are:

Starts With Us is on a mission to equip a majority of Americans to overcome toxic polarization and effectively solve our toughest problems. We tackle this challenge by illuminating the causes and effects of toxic polarization; demonstrating what it looks like when citizens, elected officials, and other leaders work across lines of difference to solve problems; and activating Americans with proven methods, skills, and inspiration to become more effective problem solvers and galvanize a movement. In addition to 1.7 million followers committed to constructively engaging across lines of difference and solving problems in their own lives and communities, Starts With Us is supported by 225+ ideologically diverse leaders across a variety of industries - from sports, media, and entertainment to faith, academia, and business. To learn more visit www.startswith.us.

What you’ll do:

As Associate Program Manager, you will be responsible for helping build and execute Citizen Solutions, a new Starts With Us initiative that will bring citizens together to experience hidden common ground and co-create solutions to seemingly unsolvable issues. The initiative, which will be piloted in Tennessee this month and replicated in other states later this year, was launched this summer after Starts With Us poll data showed citizens are eager to solve problems and don’t trust elected officials to do so. We’re looking for someone who is interested in issues-based work, including how policies are playing out at the state level due to the culture wars. The Associate Program Manager will support programmatic execution and project management, including issues research, logistics coordination, message development, partner/vendor management, and impact reporting. Reporting directly to the Head of Programs, you will also partner with the integrated marketing team at Starts With Us to raise awareness of the program and demonstrate what it looks like when everyday Americans come together to solve problems.

How you’ll do it:

  • Identify and research issues to inform future Solution Sessions
  • Analyze and summarize public feedback on consensus proposals
  • Track success of and learnings from program’s pilot year and offer recommendations on how to optimize and scale it
  • Coordinate with a variety of partners - from a dialogue facilitator to a website developer - that are working to execute different phases of the program
  • Manage logistics and provide administrative support for internal team, dialogue facilitator, and Session participants
  • Support additional Starts With Us movement programs as needed
  • Help disseminate consensus proposals, including to stakeholders, partners, and through a web app to collect public feedback
  • Monitor trends in deliberative/participatory democracy, including citizens’ assemblies and how those are playing out domestically and internationally
  • Assist in the development of high-level consensus proposals that accurately reflect the dialogue and decisions made at the Solution Sessions
  • Liaise with communications, growth, social/digital, content, partnership, and movement-building teams to ensure integrated team has program visibility and is equipped to bring it to life
  • Coordinate state-level “Solution Sessions” which will convene roughly a dozen participants of different backgrounds and perspectives for deliberative dialogue and constructive problem solving

Requirements

You are:

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, wading into new areas, and learning as you go
  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and relentlessly solutions-oriented
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and shift priorities based on needs
  • Accountable for your results and how those are achieved
  • Creative with the ability to proactively generate ideas independently and collaboratively
  • Someone who operates with kindness, transparency, integrity, and grit
  • Passionate about the mission and goals of Starts With Us
  • Plugged into national and local news cycles as well as the political zeitgeist
  • Comfortable in a remote work environment but willing to travel ~5 times a year for Solution Sessions and team gatherings
  • Comfortable executing on big, bold ideas

You have:

  • Project management experience
  • 3-4 years of experience in a political, public affairs, programmatic, or communications role
  • Event planning experience
  • Experience communicating about social impact or behavior change initiatives
  • Experience in conflict resolution, negotiation, and/or dialogue facilitation is a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience researching legislative action and policy recommendations
  • Cultural and political acumen and an appetite to stay on top of the issues facing our communities and the country
  • An understanding of grassroots/grasstops mobilization, movement building, and how people are moved to civic engagement
  • Familiarity with managing technical or technology products like a website or mobile app is a plus

Benefits

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time exempt position with a competitive annual salary range of $70,000-$80,000
  • The opportunity and responsibility to work on initiatives having an impact
  • A charitable gift matching program
  • 401K matching program
  • 21 days of Paid Time Off
  • Flexible remote work policy
  • A dynamic, ambitious, fun and kind work environment
