Job Description
Overview:
The John H. Pace Jr. '39 Center for Civic Engagement makes service and civic engagement a central part of the Princeton student experience by developing and supporting students to respond to the needs of the world in responsible ways. The Assistant Director, communications has responsibility for developing and advancing the communications direction and strategies to promote service at Princeton. The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for developing effective messages, products, and resources to execute communications and marketing to increase student involvement in service. Elevating students’ learning from service through a lens of equity and anti-racism and community partnerships is a priority. The Assistant Director oversees all facets of communications development and production, identifying project goals, resources and creative, multi-dimensional approaches to implementation. The Assistant Director encourages, supports and invites diverse perspectives in a commitment to the Pace Center's values and its vision to have Princeton University students make the world more equitable by respecting differences and creating access and opportunity for all people and communities to thrive. The Assistant Director, communications reports to the Senior Associate Director, operations.
Responsibilities:
Strategic communications and marketing (50%)
  • Engage and inform internal and external audiences around what service is at at Princeton. Promote Pace Center programs, events and activities employing effective and on-trend channels and platforms.
  • Develop, execute and communicate a purposeful and clear communications plan reflecting the Pace Center's key messages, themes, topics, audiences, and communications channels.
  • Design and develop standards for communications success by identifying, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data collected through ongoing evaluation and assessment.
  • Set a focused direction for communications that aligns around a common vision and is reflective of the Pace Center's strategic plan and values, the Campus Life strategic plan goals, and the strategic priorities of the University.
  • Connect and collaborate with others across campus, in the community and with peers with the objective of promoting the Pace Center’s goals, vision and impact on students and community.
  • Increase awareness of the impact of service through overt and active storytelling, championing marginalized students and communities and elevating the diverse perspectives, voices and experiences of students and community engaging together in service.
Content production and management (50%)
  • Lead and manage the creative, social media, digital marketing, advertising, public relations, media planning, and brand identity.
  • Oversee design and production of cross-center communications materials including print and collateral. Curate photographic and story content representing service at Princeton.
  • Advise staff and students, through workshops and other means, on communications channels, tools and other resources to showcase the impact of community relationships and student learning.
  • Publish a regular report conveying the impact and experience of service at Princeton on the student and the community. Implement a format and schedule for regular donor stewardship.
  • Identify and raise awareness of the Pace Center's resources to support service broadly.
  • Manage the communications budget.
  • Create and implement compelling content and digital marketing strategies with a lens of equity, inclusion, accessibility and compliance with University standards and guidelines.
Qualifications:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience managing creative resources, including external diverse vendors
  • Mimimum of five years of work experience
  • Curiosity to explore communications platforms and strategies
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively
  • Ability to act as an inclusive leader, creating environments of involvement, respect, connection, and community
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and adapt written, electronic, media and mobile communications channels
  • Demonstrated commitment to champion diverse and marginalized individuals and communities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience developing and implementing creative and measurable communications plans and marketing campaigns
  • Exceptional writing, presentation and story telling skills
  • Strategic and creative thinker and leader who is able to anticipate, challenge, interpret, pivot, align, and learn
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in video production with knowledge of trends in video content and technology
  • Experience in higher education
  • Flexibility and willingness to work after business hours - occasional nights and/or weekends - to accommodate community partner and student activities and events
