Associate Dean, Nursing Curriculum and Online Program Coordinator, Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing – July 1, 2023

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – School of Nursing

SUPERVISED BY: Dean, School of Nursing

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Position Starts July 1, 2023)

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Full-time nursing faculty, adjunct instructors, & other School of Nursing Personnel (in conjunction with Dean of School of Nursing).

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Dean works under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Nursing to teach and serve as secondary administrator for the School of Nursing. As a faculty member of WBU, this individual will represent the University’s academic and spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.

As the Nursing Curriculum and Online Programs Coordinator, Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing will be responsible for coordinating the online RN to BSN program and teaching courses in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) online as appropriate. As Curriculum Coordinator, the faculty member will be responsible for assisting the Dean of the School of Nursing in developing, implementing, and maintaining the RN-BSN online nursing track curriculum and the existing BSN and MSN curricula. This is a twelve-month position.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Prepare and teach 21 credit-hours of didactic and clinical nursing courses each academic year at undergraduate or graduate level, primarily online. (Will receive equivalent of 6 credit-hours/year as workload for serving as Nursing Curriculum and Online Programs Coordinator and 6 credit-hours per year for Associate Dean).
  • Maintain regular office hours as a part of a 12-month contract.
  • As assigned by the Dean, administer the daily functions of the school.
  • Assist in hiring, supervising, and guiding full-time and adjunct School faculty and staff.
  • Assist in coordination of recruiting, retention, and retaining nursing students by attending scheduled recruitment events and addressing student concerns and appeals.
  • Assist in scheduling classes and faculty workloads for the School of Nursing.
  • Assist in preparation and submission of required reports, such as the PBER/Planning, Budgeting, & Effectiveness Report, the annual budget, the End-of-Year Report, and all the nursing reports due to Board of Nursing, ACEN, AACN, NLN, and other reports as they come due.
  • Develop a familiarity with and adherence to university policies and procedures related to academics in the School of Nursing; coordinate annual review of the Student Handbook.
  • Assist with collection and review of School of Nursing faculty/adjunct faculty credentials as a part of the EFQ/Evaluation of Faculty Qualifications process.
  • Attend and participate in required Department, School, Faculty, and University Committees and events.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the new online nursing program.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and evaluation of a successful nursing curriculum.
  • Participate in graduations/pinnings when living within six-hour travel distance.
  • Participate and provide leadership in Professional Organizations and continue Professional Development in areas of expertise.
  • Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Dean or VPAA.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with regional health care and/or social services organizations, agencies, civic groups, or academic institutions to promote the development of effective nursing leaders, practitioners, and citizens to advance healthy living within our multicultural society.
  • Mentor and advise students in the Nursing Program.
  • Promote relationships with alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.

Academic

  • S.N. in Nursing is required.
  • Doctorate in nursing-related field preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

Successful applicants will have the following experience or knowledge:

  • Experience in or with teaching, scholarship, and service in higher education.
  • Experience working as a nurse in a clinical area.
  • Commitment to Christian higher education, the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptists, as well as an appreciation of Wayland’s mission, Christian ideals, and Baptist heritage.
  • Basic understanding and support of diverse approaches to higher education, including both traditional and innovative residential programs, adult degree-completion programs, online and distance learning programs, and international programs.
  • Recent successful experience teaching nursing courses in a college or university setting, particularly in an online environment.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications: additional coursework or experience in teaching nursing, specifically online and experience in curriculum development.

Skills and Abilities:

Successful applicants will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Fluency in the English language with excellent writing and speaking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and flexibility in working with others.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with limited direct supervision.
  • Proficiency with computers, technology, Blackboard or similar LMS, and related educational/classroom equipment.
  • A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of undergraduate/graduate students.
  • The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace.

  • Able to pass Background Checks
