Job Description
We are excited to welcome applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.
We are actively seeking candidates whose scholarly endeavors are rooted in quantitative methodologies and seamlessly integrate at least two of our existing program areas: Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Human Factors/Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive and affective Neuroscience, and Health Psychology. The spectrum of potential subjects is wide-ranging, encompassing areas such as occupational health, workplace dynamics, automation's impact on the future of work, diversity-inclusive training strategies, team effectiveness in healthcare contexts, technological assistance for individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities, cognitive augmentation, neurofeedback interventions, organizational neuroscience, remote work and social media's influence on mental health, inclusivity of healthcare technologies, and human-technology systems within safety-critical industries.
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, to be conferred by July 1, 2024. The responsibilities attached to this role encompass the development of a robust and impactful research program, with the potential to secure external funding. This is complemented by teaching both undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, guiding and mentoring students at both levels, and contributing to the academic, departmental, and university community through service-oriented endeavors.
Our Department of Psychological Sciences offers doctoral training in Human Factors/Human-Computer Interaction, cognitive and affective neuroscience, health psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology. Notably, our industrial-organizational psychology program was recognized as the top program in its category by U.S. News and World Report in 2022. We also administer professional master's programs in both HF/HCI and industrial-organizational psychology.
The incoming Assistant Professor will align with one or more of our dynamic program areas, becoming part of a cohesive department composed of internationally acclaimed faculty members. In this collaborative environment, there will be ample opportunities for engagement and partnership within the department, across the university, and in conjunction with the Texas Medical Center and the wider Houston, Texas community.
We warmly encourage applications from all individuals, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented in academia. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, welcoming candidates from diverse backgrounds, including people of color, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and individuals of all ages and family statuses. Our commitment is rooted in countering bias and establishing a workplace that thrives on inclusivity and equity.
