This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Compensation Range: $80,000 - $85,000 commensurate with experience
Overview:
The Associate Buyer is responsible for planning and buying product lines that are developed specifically for the Housing Works businesses as well as product lines that are not commonly donated in a resalable condition, thereby improving revenue and profitability incrementally over and above the current revenue and donations stream and supply trends. This position works closely with the PDC Manager, Cannabis Co Inventory Manager, eShop Manager and the Administrative team to identify, analyze, and maximize trends and opportunities.
Responsibilities:

• Work with PDC team on processing, pricing, ticketing and distribution of product to ensure maximum revenue
• Demonstrate and communicate awareness of retail landscape, including competitive trends and fashion trends
• Work with Marketing and Administrative team to develop the Annual Promotional Calendar and attend weekly marketing meeting to ensure all revenue opportunities are maximized via appropriate messaging. This includes providing input and feedback on the in-store visual merchandising strategy of the product buys
• Demonstrating excellent internal and external customer service, and growing this within the businesses and amongst support teams
• Provides regular analysis and reporting on sales and margin performance, including providing interpretation of key business issues and recognizing business opportunities
• Effectively sources and develops new vendors and maintains vendor relationships including co-branding vendors and opportunities, negotiating directly on purchases. This includes attendance at industry trade shows and visiting vendor showrooms
• Work closely with vendors to curate an assortment of product that is reflective of brand standards, continuing to position the bookstore and thrift shops as an upscale and exciting thrifting experience and Cannabis Co as the first and leading dispensary that is sophisticated but approachable
• Visit Shops on a regular basis to get collect feedback from staff and consumers,
• Responsible for purchase order management and administration, including but not limited to writing orders, changes, cancellations and necessary follow-up both internally and externally to ensure key shipments are delivered and processed
• Responsible for developing and executing the merchandise plan designed to improve sales volume incrementally over current supply and sales trends, ensuring achievement of net profit goals and includes participating in the annual budgeting process
• Perform other duties as directed by your supervisor, COO, President and Thrift Shop board members
• Demonstrating excellent teamwork and growing this within the businesses and amongst support teams
