They are currently seeking an Assistant Executive Director for immediate hiring, reporting to the Executive Director, and based in Santa Barbara, California.
Position Scope
The Assistant Executive Director is the number two position in the Devereux California operation and must have a deep understanding of the behavioral health field. They have likely worked at one of the California Regional Centers, has an IDD background and/or has behavioral health/social services experience. They have at least a general understanding of federal and state regulations and funding systems. They will have overall supervision and oversight of Devereux’s Programs and have been in a similar program management role in the past. They will have critical decision-making skills, a strong financial background and have excellent organization and communication skills. Importantly, they will be responsible for developing new programs to expand Devereux’s service offerings to the community. S/he will be an excellent supervisor, driven to grow and learn, think operationally, accountable for results, flexible to the “needs of the day”, and has a heart for Devereux’s Mission to maximize human potential, individuality, growth, self-realization, and independence. A true Servant Leader, s/he assists in creating systems that allow Center leadership to develop programs, service, and standards to meet the current and anticipated needs of internal and external customers, including individuals served, families, and funding, licensing, and other regulatory agencies. They function as the Center’s Executive leader in the absence of the Executive Director.
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrating that human resources policies, procedures, and practices are consistently applied.
- Skillfully develops and manages external agency relationships.
- Ensuring the executional excellence of the Center’s day-to-day Programs and Services.
- Ensuring that all Program participants are always safe and secure in their environment.
- Understanding the financial structure of all services to drive KPI’s to achieve fiscal goals.
- Works through system related problems and is accountable for positive outcomes.
- Setting clear performance expectations with staff, providing coaching, and using prompts, modeling, praise, and recognition to promote effective performance.
- Excellent communication skills driving positive outcomes with all constituents.
- Being a true Servant Leader in the organization—always seen as in the service for others.
- Exhibiting effective conflict resolution skills and directing team in a fair and supportive manner.
- Driving new Program development including same and new lines of service offerings.
- Developing performance improvement and/or development plans and ensuring their successful implementation.
- Keeping the “Trains Running” with always keeping an eye towards operational improvement.
Required Characteristics, Qualifications, and Motivations
- Strong administrative, programmatic, and operational experience in a multi–site, multi-disciplinary, community-based treatment environment.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in a senior level management role, preferably as an Assistant ED or ED, within a behavioral health environment is required.
- Proficient computer skills, mastery of Microsoft Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms.
- Highly independent and must demonstrate significant digression to act within policy but be able to make decisions to go beyond standard operating procedures.
- Strong organizational and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with one or more Regional Centers, state regulatory agencies, or Provider agency at the Director level is required.
- Good working knowledge of the importance of having diversity in the workplace.
- Master's Degree in Health Care, Human Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or Finance/Business Administration is recommended.
Reporting Relationships, Travel, Benefits and Location
The Assistant Executive Director has three direct Program Director reports, oversees total staff of 170 and reports directly to the Executive Director. Up to 25% travel is required for both service work and ongoing training. The company offers a competitive compensation package with benefits.
