JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications


EMPLOYEE STATUS: 100% FTE, Exempt, Full-Year


REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing and Communications


WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM with the ability to work occasional evening/weekend hours depending on events


START DATE: July 10, 2023


SALARY RANGE: $85,000–$95,000

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is the chief visual content creator and social media strategist for the Marketing and Communications Department. As the department’s primary tactician, they work in close partnership with the director to create a wide variety of strategically aligned materials that support The Bay School’s position as a leading independent school, serve the needs of current families, and contribute to an atmosphere of belonging for our students and families.


Required Quali?cations


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree


EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years in social media content creation and management; demonstrated skill in brand management; demonstrated skills in writing and graphic design (samples/links required)


Computer Skills


  • Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Canva
  • Google Suite tools
  • Ability and enthusiasm for learning new technology platforms to continually improve department functions
  • Content management system experience and ability to quickly learn new CMS
  • Email platform such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact and ability to quickly master such tools


CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Valid CA driver’s license


OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Live Scan ?ngerprinting, TB risk assessment, ?rst aid/CPR training, mandated reporter training, harassment training, COVID-19 vaccination including all relevant boosters and the ability to work occasional evening/weekend hours for parent events, sports, and overnight school trips


Major Responsibilities


External and Internal Marketing


  • Manages and creates content for the school’s social media channels, including tracking metrics, training staffulty as needed;
  • Designs and supports paid social campaigns;
  • Designs materials for events—including ?yers, posters, videos, wearables (hoodies, T-shirts, etc.), and theater programs;
  • Creates short-form content, such as social posts/stories/reels and website news articles, especially during the winter and spring Immersive terms;
  • Serves as the school’s photographer and videographer to capture ongoing school events/activities and maintain an organized media library; keeps the school walls lively with photos/artwork that highlights the breadth of Bay;
  • Manages and prioritizes department requests submitted through the work order form.
  • Supports and publicizes school events, staffulty work, and student experiences;


Communications


  • Assists with the maintenance of the school website, including updating staffulty pro?les, writing news stories, updating pages, and creating new pages and content (training in the CMS is provided);
  • Manages day-to-day communications with families, including the weekly school newsletter and emails;
  • Serves as primary point of contact for the Bay Family Association leadership; collects content and creates monthly newsletter (BFA First Fridays);
  • Updates schoolwide display monitors (platforms are DakBoard and Novisign) with calendar, lunch menu, announcements, etc.


Shared Responsibilities


  • Storyboards marketing videos;
  • Newsletter articles
  • Creates schedules for professional photographer/videographer;
  • Works with student leaders on social media and other content.
  • Supports the needs of a variety of departments through content creation, including athletics and academics; content may include:
  • Web content
  • Videos
  • Social posts


Required Professional Qualities/Abilities


  • Ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies (staffulty/departments, students, parents, and community at large);
  • Demonstrated graphic design and basic photography/video skills (work samples required);
  • The Bay School seeks staffulty members with strong cultural competence and a commitment to equity and belonging. As a primary content creator for the school, you must have a keen sense of how to convey values through writing, design, and photography.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills (writing samples required); comfort with public speaking a plus;
  • Ability to execute ideas in line with strategic goals;
  • Ability to speak and write ?uently in Spanish is highly preferred but not required.
  • Strong cultural competence and commitment to equity and inclusion; ability to articulate the vision and strategy of the school as it relates to DEIB work;
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Enthusiasm for working with teenagers within a school community;
  • Ability to receive and incorporate feedback;


Physical Requirements


  • High frequency of viewing a computer monitor.
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time;
  • Must be able to work on-site full time;

Work Environment


  • The Bay School campus has three separate buildings that are across the street from each other. Classrooms and of?ces are spread throughout all three buildings and the work of this department requires frequent movement around campus;
  • The Bay School lunch service is provided by Acre Gourmet and is available to all employees and subsidized by the school. Staffulty eat lunch in shared dining room spaces with students, in their of?ces or in the Staffulty lounge on the fourth ?oor.
  • Assistant director shares an of?ce with the director;
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud during school hours and usually quiet outside of school hours;
