Job Description

The Assistant Dean of the Honors College is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Honors College in achieving its goals of providing a challenging and rewarding academic experience for high-achieving students.

The Assistant Dean is a member of the college’s leadership team and is responsible for collaborating with the Dean and other members of the team to develop and implement policies and procedures to support the college’s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the management of the Directed Interdisciplinary Studies program to include accreditation and curricular assessments.
  • Represent and participate in the summer orientation programming, MSU Friday events and other special recruitment and orientation events.
  • Develop mechanisms to track data and assess outcomes associated with student-centered programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee curricular assessment, student retention, and graduate surveys.
  • Oversee student curricular advising, and research/creative placements, internships, scholarship advising etc.
  • Share responsibility for daily operations in the Honors College, which include committee representation, meeting with prospective students and families, community outreach, etc.
  • Participate with review of Presidential Scholarship and Honors College applications, including the interview process for the Presidential Scholarship.
  • Develop and coordinate new retention activities and programs.
  • Spearhead, at the college level, local, regional, national and international recruitment efforts, in collaboration with the Dean, as well as the Office of Admissions.
  • Monitor, evaluate and appropriately disseminate data, metrics and statistics as they relate to the college’s key performance indicators (KPIs), to student success and to College operations in collaboration with the Office of Planning and Analysis.
  • Partner with Dean on coordination of grant submittals.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the Dean and other members of the team to develop and implement policies and procedures to support the college’s mission.
  • Represent and participate in Honors courses and programs such as Hike and Read, Ski and Read, Great Expeditions, and Honors Presents Lecture Series programming.
  • Liaise with the Office of Institutional Equity to serve the needs of an increasingly diverse student population and to develop strategies to support the diversification of the student body.
  • Work in a diverse University community and provide support to students from diverse backgrounds to succeed.


Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s degree in relevant field appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the position or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
  • Experience teaching and/or advising/mentoring of Honors students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the university setting.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating committees.

  • Record of exemplary scholarly activity.
  • Record of successful grant activity.
  • Demonstrated record of effective university teaching experience.
