Assistant Controller (Commercial Construction)

Assistant Controller Commercial Construction Ferguson Construction is seeking to add an Assistant Controller to its upbeat team based in Columbus, Ohio. The Assistant Controller reports to the CFO, with a strong dotted line to the Vice President for the Columbus region. You will be working very closely with the CFO and the corporate Accounting team in Sidney, Ohio, the Vice President for the Columbus region, regional Project Managers and Operations leaders. You will be doing a lot more than just auditing and reporting. Responsibilities Establish and maintain best practice record-to-report and orders-to-cash workflow at scale, continually enhancing all aspects of policies, procedures, accounting tools, and internal controls to ensure quality reporting and optimized collections Promote cross-functional business partnering to ensure the quality of inputs and that all company stakeholders have timely access to quality regional reporting to manage functional outcomes Innovate ways and collaboratively work cross-functionally to integrate and efficiently report operating results Support a timely and efficient annual financial audit, statutory tax filings, and general corporate compliance Drive accounting data transparency through efficient processes, systems, and tools focusing on operational excellence and reporting efficacy Coordinate regional budgeting, monthly reporting and variance analysis in alignment with corporate Accounting standards Ensure quality reporting and provide strategic input in using and developing accounting systems and tools, operating policies, and procedures Drive a timely and efficient monthly reporting cycle, including integrated operational commentary to enable monthly business review, analysis, and performance tracking Partner with corporate Accounting, regional Vice President, Project Managers and Operations leaders to align policies and procedures to ensure workflow alignment, maintenance, and reporting quality Lead all AR and AP work for the region, in close concert with corporate Accounting as needed Prepare and support financial results for presentation as needed Ensure compliance with Prevailing Wage work requirements Skills and Qualifications CPA required BA in Finance, Accounting, Business or related required Experience with public accounting firm preferred but not required Prior experience working in commercial or industrial construction industry highly desirable Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience with increasing responsibilities Self-starter that empowers, inspires, and enables others to deliver their best results while building and developing a high-performing team Polished management style, with confidence and demonstrated experience working with and presenting to all levels of the organization and stakeholders A critical thinker who is curious and understands goals, objectives, and the measures of success for a $60m revenue regional division of a larger enterprise Able to find creative solutions by leveraging resources, processes, systems, and tools Leads by example, takes commitments seriously, delivers on time, and holds themselves to a high-performance standard Brings and is open to new ideas and seeks understanding to improve business performance Highly focused on company success and role ownership, willing to prioritize investments and processes to achieve outcomes objectively.
