Analytical Scientist - Chromatography
CM Industrial have partnered with a international chemical company with state of the art production and manufacturing sites, that have implemented a fully integrated system from basic raw materials all the way to sophisticated, high-value products. Their diversified business portfolio has a competitive advantage across the globe, including business divisions in petrochemicals, advanced materials, and life sciences.
We are actively searching for an Analytical Scientist - Chromatography to strengthen the R&D team in polymers. This is also a leadership role to mentor less experienced scientists.
Responsibilities:
- Manage laboratories including ordering lab supplies, chemicals, and gases
- Participate in internal/external meetings
- Design and carry out analytical experiments independently
- Prepare samples and standards
- Conduct analysis, interpret and report results on time
- Set up, operate, maintain, calibrate, optimize and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory equipment for maintaining high-quality data
- Sample handling and shipping
- Conduct safety activities and prepare required documents
- Validate, update and record analytical methods
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency
- Mentor, train, and guide less experienced colleagues in the instrumental analysis
- Collaborate across TS&D, Production, EHS, R&D, etc
- Suggest analytical problem-solving methods to internal/external colleagues
- Document standard operating procedures, analysis methods, etc
- Setup new laboratories for sample preparation and microscopy including purchase of lab consumables and glassware
- Selection and purchase of new electron microscope
- Network with the external scientific, technical and regulatory community
- Develop new methods
- Experiments will be conducted at external facility outside of CS center
- Coordinate external analytical support
- Assist with waste disposal
- Communicate and collaborate with HQ and other sites of the company
Requirements:
- Standard testing (e.g. ASTM, ISO) experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in teams and with internal/external customers
- Programming and/or software skills for data analysis (e.g. curve fitting), statistical analysis, and automation.
- VOC analysis experiences by using GC and GC-MS with optimal sample preparation techniques
- Experience in GC, LC or GPC
- VOC / TVOC analysis
- 5-7+years Analytical chemistry laboratory or chemistry/polymer industry experience, particularly qualitative and quantitative analysis for monomer, oligomer and additive in various plastics and rubbers (ABS, PO, rubber, polyacrylate, etc).
- Understanding chemical safety
- Experience in failure analysis
- Master or advanced degrees in relevant fields such as chemistry, physics, polymer science, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, etc.
- Willingness to learn, self-development
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint Skills
- Qualitative/quantitative monomer, oligomer and additive analysis
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating analytical instruments
