We are seeking a Chemist to join our Raw Materials Analytical team in our Clark, NJ Research facility. We are looking for talent that is passionate about problem-solving and investigating the chemistry behind our products, can use data to support conclusions and claims, and has a deep drive to ensure beauty products are held to the highest standards in quality and safety.


As a Chemist in our Raw Material team, your main responsibilities are:

  • Adhere to site and department’s health and safety guidelines and maintain personal and shared workspace.
  • Perform general troubleshooting and maintenance for various pieces of equipment assigned.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes, delays, or other unexpected events, and prioritize the work to ensure on time delivery of results and critical project milestones.
  • Collects, process and interpret accurately results, derive conclusions based on sound science, and prepare reports to effectively communicate results and findings to key stakeholders (audience with and without scientific backgrounds).
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding testing statuses of projects.
  • Contribute to and participate in building team culture
  • Develop working relationships with cross-functional teams, labs, and international colleagues to ensure breadth and depth of the teams’ knowledge, specifically in the area of raw material quality control.
  • Adhere to written procedures and practices to ensure good quality, compliance, and safety.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving capabilities in the analytical chemistry field, with emphasis on raw materials testing.
  • Perform root cause analyses for non-conformance events related to laboratory testing.
  • Actively participate in L’Oréal’s international analytical technical communities
  • Perform analysis of samples and raw materials using chromatographic, spectroscopic, wet chemistry, physical testing and other analytical techniques.


To Succeed in this Position, You Have:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry with 0-3 years of professional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet timelines.
  • Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • XRF and metal analysis is a plus but not required.
  • Working knowledge of UV/VIS, pH, TLC, FT-IR, and Melting Point along with wet chemistry, physical testing and sample preparation techniques are required.
  • Working knowledge of HPLC, GC, auto-titrators, Karl Fisher, Viscosity, flashpoint, are desired.
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required).

  • A self-starter with the ability to learn new techniques and chemistry.
