Ai And Image Analysis Scientist - Bioinformatics And Drug Discovery

Zafrens, Inc., a biotechnology company that focuses on innovative product and drug development in the lifesciences industry, is seeking an AI and Image Analysis Scientist to join their team. The AI and Image Analysis Scientist will be responsible for developing and implementing algorithms for image analysis and processing of high-throughput drug discovery campaigns. The position requires a strong knowledge of machine learning techniques and experience with python. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for integrating imaging data with other modalities (genomics, proteomics) in addition to teaching and supporting other scientists in interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform data annotation of segmentation masks and object box coordinates in primary imaging data
• Work with engineering team to improve analytical result quality
• Perform model training & evaluation for semantic segmentation, object detection, and instance segmentation tasks
• Work with biology team to ensure that necessary outputs are generated
• Collaborate and contribute to interdisciplinary research teams that include chemists, biologists, and software engineers
• Identify and assimilate public datasets as appropriate to improve model performance
• Work with software team to build data & metadata access & tracking tools
• Develop software/scripts to automate inference and data compilation from primary data
• Build and maintain datasets of in-house-acquired primary annotated data
• Provide software support for evolving data quality over time
• Proactively identify and explore new image analysis opportunities to support drug discovery
• Provide ad-hoc analyses for specific project needs
• Teach and support colleagues with image processing and machine learning techniques

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

• 6 months of hands-on experience building and maintaining annotated imaging dataset(s)
• Ability to work principally at our office in San Diego, CA
• 2 years of experience programming in Python
• 1 year of hands-on experience building & modifying PyTorch vision models
• 6 months of experience building JavaScript applications to interact with analytical results
• Familiarity with standard vision models (e.g. UNet, SSD, SOLO)

Preferred:

• Strong coding skills in Python and MATLAB, or R
• PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
• Experience with developing algorithms and deploying software in machine learning techniques
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
• Background in multi-omic datasets and bioinformatics
