Arc implements its strategy through grantmaking and proprietary products and programs delivered by our in-house capability.

About The Opportunity

Climate Arc is in its first full year of operation and we are looking to establish our inaugural Advisory Council. The Advisory Council will play a critical role in driving the strategic direction of Arc as well as supporting best practice governance. We are looking for experienced, inspirational, and authentic leaders who are committed to accelerating the net zero transition and can help guide Arc’s strategy to help achieve our mission. Vitally, we need you to share our belief that rapid and extensive change is possible and be ready to support action to instigate it.

Role & Responsibilities

As a member of the Board of Directors you will provide strategic leadership to Climate Arc in collaboration with the Chief Executive and the Chair providing input into our strategic and business plans that will meet our mission and vision and critically ensure our outputs will have a definite and systemic impact in the real economy. You will also support Arc’s fundraising, partnerships and convening efforts leveraging your existing network and attending events on Arc’s behalf including possible speaking engagements where pertinent to your geography or sectoral expertise.

You will also hold the fiduciary duty to ensure that Arc is compliant with all legal, financial, reporting, and other requirements through a framework of policies and reporting arrangements. You will consider organizational risks and take action or delegate as necessary to mitigate those risks and delegate decisions to the Chief Executive and provide approvals as appropriate. You will participate in sub-committees as required e.g. the Finance and Audit Committee.

Requirements

About you

You have a passion for Arc’s vision and mission and bring deep knowledge and experience of working within the global financial system and one or more of its subsectors (banking, insurance, asset management etc.). You have existing relationships within networks relevant to one or more of Arc’s strategic pillar portfolios. You have experience in a similar NED role ideally in a philanthropic or ‘re-granter’ organization.

You have the time and capacity to commit to attending quarterly Board meetings as well as any special meetings, relevant committee meetings and strategically significant speaking engagements or events.

Ideally, you will also have knowledge and understanding of the global climate finance ecosystem. You may also have experience of having established new initiatives or organizations and in driving an organisation’s culture and strategy

Term

The Advisory Council will serve a three-year term and be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.

Location and remuneration

The majority of meetings will be virtual/remote (circa 2 hours) with one meeting per year in person (1-2 days). Advisory Council members will be fairly compensated for their time. Travel expenses as well as other reasonable and necessary costs incurred, as part of official Board business, will be reimbursed.
