Job Description
The Media & Performance Black Arts Council Internship Program is a full-time,12-month internship with stipend for recent college graduates interested in pursuing a career in art and/or art history with a demonstrated interest in time-based media and/or performance art. The focused departmental training is integrated with monthly activities and a lecture series designed for interns to receive greater exposure to the museum as a whole. The program is complemented with financial provisions for interns to create a research trip related to their fields of interest.

This internship program is proudly sponsored by the Black Arts Council at MoMA, a philanthropic community founded in 1993 that is dedicated to the elevated visibility, access, and appreciation for art and artists of the African diaspora at The Museum of Modern Art. For the last 30 years, the Black Arts Council continues its founding mission to strengthen the artistic tradition at MoMA by supporting museum programs, exhibitions and acquisitions that center Black perspectives on modern and contemporary art across New York City and around the world.

The Media & Performance Intern will be a part of a larger cohort of interns from various MoMA departments. Twelve-month internships provide training in specific museum fields through close work with professional staff members, familiarity with modern and contemporary art through seminars and discussions, and an educational program that exposes interns to the workings of the Museum as a whole, while considering the role of museums in the broader cultural context. Interns are also invited and encouraged to support and attend Black Arts Council events and special programs.

Duties within the department may include but are not limited to:

  • Various department activities
  • Conducting research
  • Office Administration
  • Working with Black Arts Council staff to support community programs and events
  • Working with Curatorial Assistants to support exhibitions and gallery rotations
