CIVIL DEPUTY (Clerical Position for the Sheriff’s Office)
This exam is for the purpose of establishing a certified list of future candidates for employment. The eligibility of successful candidates shall remain in effect one year. APPLICANTS WILL BE SUBJECT TO PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING, POLYGRAPH AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS, FINGERPRINTING AND BACKGROUND CHECKS.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The Civil Deputy is a non-sworn position subject to the direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant and is responsible for administrative support, bookkeeping and coordinating technical civil paper services to contribute to complete, accurate and legal records maintenance and timely civil and criminal paper service.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS:* One (1) Full-time.*
SALARY AND BENEFITS:**
Full Salary Range: $3,596.60 - $4,294.53/month
Starting entry rate Steps 1-3 ($3,596.30-$3,815.63/month) DOQ.
Benefits include: Eligibility for medical, dental & vision insurance, HRA VEBA and/or HSA, WA State retirement plan options, life insurance, long-term disability, paid holidays, paid vacation, and paid sick leave, time-based step increases. Paid twice per month on the 10th and the 25th of each month. Union position.
GENERAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED of all applicants prior to entering the classified service are:
1. Must be a U.S. citizen at time of appointment.
2. Must speak the English language clearly, fluently and at a normal conversational rate.
3. Must read, write legibly and spell correctly in the English language.
4. Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
5. Must be at least eighteen years of age at time of appointment.
6. Must pass a polygraph examination to determine if the applicant is prone to violate the laws of Washington State or of the United States.
7. Must submit to a psychological evaluation to determine the applicant’s suitability for employment in the position being sought.
8. Must cooperate in a back-ground investigation to determine the applicant’s suitability for employment in the position being sought.
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE: Typing Test: 40 WPM with a 90% accuracy (a pass or fail 5 minute test). Your keyboarding appointment will be set at the time you file your application (subject to the Chief Examiner’s schedule). You must test within two weeks of submitting your application. You must pass the typing test to take the Written Exam which will be scheduled upon passing the typing test (can be same day). Allow 2 hours for written test. Test location: County Courthouse, Commissioner’s Office 625 W. 4th St. Newport, WA 99156. Further testing will be administered by the Sheriff’s Office if you pass the Civil Service Tests and your application is forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office.**
