The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is seeking to fill an Administrative Assistant position in the Sheriff's Data Practices division.


Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit employee referral program .


Location and hours:


This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site located in downtown Minneapolis at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.


New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In This Position, You Will


  • Coordinate data practice inquiries and prepare responses; data practice project management; maintain systems and files that support data practices.
  • Examine sensitive material for release under the Minnesota Data Practices Act.
  • Compose various letters and reports.
  • Evaluate performance of departmental operations based on stated goals and objectives.
  • Assist in legal and policy research and analysis; maintain research files.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret current and proposed laws, rules, and legislation.
  • Investigate and recommend action regarding complaints about services, operations, policies, or procedures.
  • Obtain police reports, body and squad camera recordings, videos, photos, and other evidence-based material for data/case review.


Need To Have
  • Four or more years of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations.
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the positions.
Nice to have:
  • Developing correspondence, documents, presentations, and proposals.
  • Working with computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Working with Law Enforcement Technology Group (LETG) record management software and Criminal Justice Information Systems.
  • State of Minnesota Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification. Experience:
  • Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment, strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to:
  • Conduct oneself professionally and maintain strict confidentiality.
