Job Description

Job Summary:

An Account Manager is responsible for making sure client/group and customer needs are being met and understood by each department in the company. Their duties include collaborating with AE, Broker or management on escalated, unique service issues. In addition, client complaints, working to find solutions to any client issues and managing other departments to ensure clients are experiencinga positive client-company relationship. They communicate and connect to build strong relationships with clients, carriers, and internal team members to ensure the best possible customer service and accuracy on client accounts.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Keeps informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Reviews policies and all documentation for accuracy and quality standards and maintains communication regarding COBRA, HIPPA, MEDICARE PART D notifications, 5500 filings and information. Update & maintain small group collateral spreadsheet
  • Member advocacy – support and educate clients on benefit usage and help with any benefit issues
  • Consult with client/group to facilitate the new plan installation process and issue renewals or any updates needed to current policies. Also informs and educates about policy coverage, changes, exclusions, and insurance needs. Assist in set up of new accounts in Epic and Mineral.
  • Update policy changes on client/group accounts in our book of business and inform clients about policy changes according to policies and regulations.
  • Responsible for existing client account review (updating EPIC and plan eligibility rules) and renewal process including client contact, re-marketing and proposals with internal team members and stakeholders.
  • Provides support to Account Executives and Brokers as needed, specifically in analyzing client/group needs, coverage forms and RFPs and schedules appointments with clients. Meet regularly with AE and Brokers on client accounts, expectations, issues and collaborating of the account.
  • Attends and facilitates webinars and information sessions for clients/groups and gathers (from the carrier/vendor) training tutorials in learning software to help support their education and awareness. Can require small traveling on small groups with presenting Renewals or Zoom calls.
  • Prepares, completes, and submit applications, spreadsheets, or data entry to carriers; develop summaries, proposals and provide technical support in coordination with brokers and responsible for follow-up with carriers and clients/groups.
  • Assists clients with coverage changes, certificate requests, binders and uses each contact as an opportunity to review needs and provide solutions to their needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of current computer system functions, input procedures, codes and how to perform technical tasks to expedite client service.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of SBCS, Plan Summaries, Benefit Guides etc. Also respond to all general questions from our clients pertain to the Navigator accounts.
  • Responsible for handling of inbound phone calls.
  • Partners and coordinates with Marketing to submit the RFP and request census reports . (Small Group handles Census/RFP/ Presentation and final Decision on house accounts) Open Enrollment Meetings via Zoom or In Person
  • Responsible for Navigator, setting up demo calls for training, building of workbook and documents needed for portal, responsible for obtaining carrier rules and calculations on the rates and contributions for the initial build, we assist clients in reporting and initial payroll deduction reports for their payroll, responsible for ongoing training and education with our clients, and carrier discrepancy reports.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong customer service focus with a highly professional attitude and approach to business and agility to communicate with various stakeholders and team members.
  • Full knowledge of business insurance markets and products including rating procedures, coverages, and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain, and write assigned client and prospect lists.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and document work in progress.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of agency management software and insurance rating software; proficient in Microsoft Suite office software; working knowledge of Epic and Navigator a plus.


Education and Experience:

  • Must have very strong follow up, written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Active insurance license in your state or willing to get licensed in 90 days
  • Candidates should have basic computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred, or commensurate insurance industry experience.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
