Department Purpose
The Office of the Vice Provost – Academic Affairs provides services and leadership to sustain a vibrant, inclusive and internationally recognized academic community that is committed to creating new knowledge and extending the knowledge to future generations for the enrichment of our global community. Academic Affairs has overall responsibility for leadership, management, and administrations of all academic personnel related matters across the schools, colleges, library, administrative, and research units for both general and health sciences campuses. The office provides leadership, training and guidance in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to academic personnel.
Job Summary
Under direction of the Academic Personnel Co-Directors and in consultation with the Vice Provost, provide independent research, guidance, and policy interpretation on academic personnel policy
and programs (spanning more than 20 different academic title series) for the Davis campus (general and health sciences). This position works collaboratively as part of the Academic Affairs policy analyst team. This position provides guidance to all academic personnel units regarding the academic review process; serve as a member of the team of analyst to provide analytical support to deans, department chairs and their designees, and a wide array of campus units in specific areas of academic personnel (e.g., compensation, leaves of absence, recalls, exemptions, and search waivers); provide support on academic grievance and complaint reviews; provide information, interpretation and recommendations related to academic personnel policies; develop new campus- and system-wide procedures and practices and provide analytical and practical support for development and integration of information technology solutions for academic personnel processes.

- Lift/carry, and unpack and repack boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Experience assessing problems and developing solutions based on an understanding of policy and priorities and analysis of available information to advise others and participate in assessing business processes.
- Experience and skill to apply various computer programs (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web applications) to accomplish assignments. Ability to learn new software programs.
- Experience coordinating large volumes of work; managing detailed projects with conflicting priorities and competing deadlines; and establishing goals and workload priorities.
- Experience with research, analysis and interpretation of policies, practices and procedures (college/campus/university preferred).
- Experience to convey detailed and complex information to groups and individuals in a training capacity, and to demonstrate and instruct others on the operational use of web-based systems.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Organizational and analytical skills to research and interpret data and policy, write recommendations and present analyses both orally and in writing. Communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate in person, in writing, and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of and experience with campus-wide offices, administrative staff contacts, campus structure, policies and resources strongly desired.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience developing written materials for instruction and dissemination in a classroom format and on the Web.
- Experience with assessing training needs with skill to research training options, modify and update existing training information, and to implement new approaches.
- Experience using the following systems: University of California HR and Payroll System (UCPath), Cognos reporting, MyInfoVault (MIV), Academic Personnel History & Information Database (APHID), UC Recruit, UC Outside Activity Tracking System (UC OATS), and an electronic document management system, such as OnBase.
- Experience working as part of a team that develops and delivers effective solutions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
