Salary Grade 80 ($72,196 - $119,020)

Pay: $71,305.00 - $113,285.00 per year

Oversees the Safety Program, including Hazardous Waste Management and Chemical Hygiene Plan in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology services.

Collaborates with manager in resolving human resources, employee and department safety, and risk management issues.

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Assists manager in hiring, training evaluating, and maintaining the competency of the staff.

Minimum three (3) experience in a high volume acute care clinical laboratory required.

Knowledge of CLIA, Title 22, CAP The Joint Commission, NCQA, AABB, local, state, federal regulations.

Have at least 2 years of experience directing or supervising high complexity testing; or

Two years of laboratory training or experience, or both; and

Two years of laboratory experience directing or supervising high complexity testing.

No person shall be a director of a clinical laboratory unless he conforms with one of the following requirements:

Hold an earned doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and

Be certified and continue to be certified by a board approved by HHS; or

Enters collected data into the Health Department management information systems (e.g. EMR, PTBMIS, etc).

Informs client of rights and responsibilities for participation in various programs.

Assesses patient to provide all potentially eligible services for the client and informs client of other services offered by the state.

Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

Previous experience with water related microbiology and managing databases.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.

Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in assisting the director and managers in process development, information gathering, and requests with tight timelines.

Manage documents and information in appropriate format (Sharepoint and Google Suite)

Prior experience as an executive or administrative assistant

Experience with the Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Google Suite of Programs

Experience with virtual meeting formats (Google Meet and/or Zoom)

Provide administrative support to the Director of the Utah Public Health Lab and other staff within the Lab

Follows College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements.

Accurately accessions and registers specimens for processing and testing.

Maintains high quality and productivity as required by department.

Follows designated procedures for labeling and processing; sort and deliver specimens to technical areas as assigned.

Prepares solutions, reagents and supplies as assigned.

Operates all necessary equipment in designated laboratory.

Has 24-hour responsibility and accountability to direct and oversee all laboratory operations.

Develops and assures compliance with all operational, safety and budget matters utilizing key performance indicators.

Prepares, submits, and administers annual budgets for equipment, supplies, projects, services, and personnel.

Maintains compliance with all regulatory agencies and provides leadership for any proposed or required changes.

Acts as a liaison between Laboratory and other Departments and physicians.

Complete annual WIC trainings, and continuing nutrition and breastfeeding education requirements

Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to basic cooking and food demonstration techniques.

Gather and assess information for determining health and nutrition risk factors, program eligibility, client education, and referrals

Provide group nutrition education and individual nutrition education, which includes breastfeeding support

Document client information and services, and manage appointment schedules in various electronic records, including Cascades to support the WIC program.

Order and maintain program supplies and educational materials

Five years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in a large, public health organization.
