Summary
- Provide guidance and leadership to ensure site operational efficiency. Develop staff and capability for growth challenges.
- Responsible for the management of the laboratory operations to ensure first-in-class customer and analytical services.
- Responsible for the site P&L (Profits & Loss). Manage resources and staff to meet and/or exceed expectations.
- Develop strategy to increase organic and incremental revenues. Collaborate with Business Development and SGS efforts to increase SGS market shares and presence.
Job Functions
- Assist clients to interpretate Laboratory analysis and data.
- Maintain thorough understanding of sampling techniques.
- Responsible for determining authenticity of Laboratory Certificates Analysis.
- At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
- Identify emerging shifts in the industry through the review of competitive analysis coupled with the ability to make sound suggestions or recommendations to a maintain competitive advantage.
- Maintain current knowledge by attending seminars, lectures, meetings and professional conferences.
- Receive orders from clients; follow up on job progress and report status to clients.
- Participate in local marketing efforts and partner with sales team to increase market share.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide recommendations to the management on upgrading laboratory.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Assure compliance with Laboratory Q.A. Manual and Safety Manual.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of laboratory staff.
- P & L responsibility for assigned Laboratory operations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree in Science, with emphasis in chemistry or other related field.
- Must have 10+ years in a management and/or supervisory role.
- Must be able to work with all chemicals, petrochemicals and petroleum products.
- Must be able to travel as required.
- Must have prior experience with instrumentation and calibrations.
- Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
- Prior experience in the Oil & Gas industry (laboratory setting) is required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Participates in incident investigations involving their department personnel.
- Ensures that suppliers / contractors are apprised of relevant HSE requirements and that any adverse HSE impacts of their activities or products are managed and minimized.
- Ability to build and lead an effective team and foster a sense of collaboration to achieve goals.
- Ensures risk assessments are completed for all routine and non routine activities.
- Excellent communication, writing, presentation and analytical skills.
- Ensures Safe Working Methods are in place and applied in all operations and as identified by contract.

- Willingness and ability to work with minimal supervision and to effectively prioritize and schedule workload to meet requirements and deadlines.
- Maintains a strong knowledge of and commitment to Group and Divisional HSE Targets and Objectives by setting, monitoring and formally reporting local Targets and Objectives.
- Identifies and provides relevant HSE training for their personnel.
- Assists HSE staff in the completion of department HSE audits.
