The Coon Rapids Ice Center is a state-of-the art skating facility featuring indoor ice, an outdoor refrigerated rink (one of few in the state), meeting rooms, training rooms and party rooms. The facility provides year-round indoor skating opportunities including skating instruction, hockey skill development, numerous hockey tournaments, public skating events, skate rental and sharpening. We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our team!
Under the general guidance and direction of the Ice Center Management, the Ice Center Maintenance Technician (IMT) is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the ice rink surface and surrounding facilities. IMTs may also be asked to back up Rec Workers at the Concession stand and Pro-Shop as necessary.
We are looking for individuals that enjoy being a part of a team, understand customer service is at the center of what we do and ensure our facility is ready to go for all of our events. You will assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the ice rink surface and surrounding facilities. Yes, you get to drive the Zamboni! No previous experience in ice resurfacing, we will train the selected candidates. Shifts will generally be evening shifts and candidates will be expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts a week including weekends. If this sounds like fun apply today! - Collects ice center revenue as required.
- Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.
- Provides effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
- Follows oral and written instructions such as supervisor's work orders and equipment operation manuals.
- Resurfaces ice as scheduled.
- Assists Recreation Workers, as assigned.
- Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and outside agencies, and the general public.
- Monitors ice compressor system regularly.
- Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
- Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
- Performs essential position duties and responsibilities under the working conditions and physical demands described herein.
- Maintains ice center upkeep including cleaning lobby, floors and windows, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, locker rooms, bleachers and players' benches.
- Assists customers as needed.
- Ensures ice center walkways and exterior are clear for users.
- Monitors use of ice center facilities.
- Handles confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Performs essential duties and responsibilities under the working hours described herein.
- Must strive to promote a cooperative atmosphere in the department and exhibit a positive attitude.
- Ability to perform duties with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
- Ability to be detail oriented and follow through with tasks.
- Ability to work independently with general guidance from the ice center management.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, supervisors, agencies and general public.
- Ability to promote a favorable working relationship with all ice center users.
- Ability to work cooperatively with City personnel, external vendors and the public.
- Ability to maintain a team and service oriented approach to work.
- Must have the ability to accept criticism or discipline.
- Current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications, or must obtain within 45 days.
- Eighteen years of age or older.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be responsible and able to work effectively and courteously with the public.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or keyboards; speak intelligibly, hear and read.
- The employee must frequently move, turn, lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Examples of lifting and carrying requirements include but are not limited to boxes of frozen food and supplies.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision and depth perception.
- Ability to work in cool temperatures.
- Must be able to operate assigned equipment.
- Ability to stand and/or skate for long periods of time.
- Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
