GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the direction and leadership of the Youth and Family Services Director, this position is responsible for supervising children’s programs ages 3 to 12 years old. This position requires the ability to provide safe, constructive environment for the programs participants at the YMCA facility.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires the individual to perform a broad range of activities and duties needing full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination. The position requires ability to provide excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. It entails supervision of children and youth while providing them with safe and constructive environment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to children, parents and community at large.
- Communicate positively with youth, parents and staff.
- Assist to ensure that all Afterschool Care, School’s Out Camps and Youth Sports equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
- Arrive to work as scheduled wearing staff shirt/name tag.
- Identify and resolve problem areas to ensure participants satisfaction and safety.
- Complete daily record keeping requirements as required by Youth and Family Services Director.
- Implement program activity schedules, game schedules, and curriculum and designed by the Youth and Family Service Director.
- Provide excellent service to members, guests, and program participants.
- Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Services Director.
- Provide a quality experience for the children, youth and parents in youth sports, afterschool care and summer day camp programs.
- Help ensure that weekly camp fees have been paid through roster management.
- Assist the Youth and Family Service Director with implementation of Youth Sports Program, Afterschool Care and School’s Out Camps complying with all Association Standards.
- Notify Youth and Family Services Director of all incidents immediately, and resolve problems as needed.
- Attend and participate in planned staff meetings, trainings and special activities that are required YMCA functions.
EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
- Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
- Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, etc.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
- Certifications required within 60 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
- High school education.
- Child Abuse Prevention Training.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children ages 3-12 years old.
