Full Time/Benefits
Downtown Portland, OR
FLSA: Non-Exempt/Hourly
2 Positions: Swing and Overnight


Morrison is seeking Youth Care Workers of any background, experience, and education to join our team and help youth in our Residential Long Term Home be kids and enjoy their time with us!

All positions at Morrison have been deemed Healthcare Providers and must comply with Oregon's COVID Vaccine Mandate. Proof of vaccination is required for all employees.

$2 per hour shift differential for weekend swing and overnight hours!


About the Program: ORR Immigrant Youth Services - LTGH

Our Long-Term Home provides services to up to 20 adolescents at one time (ages 14-17 years old) in a co-ed residential facility setting. The youth, typically from Latin America and occasionally other countries live in our Long-Term Group Home, while they await family reunification or other placement options. They attend public school and other community activities.


Job Summary:

Our program is designed to help the youth, by creating a secure and therapeutic environment in which the youth, learn the necessary skills to be self-sufficient. Depending on shift, this position helps youth with education services, find hobbies and skills, provide a clean and safe environment, and on overnight they provide wind-down services and nightly rounds to ensure our youth are comfortable and safe.


What does a Milieu Counselor do?

  • Ensures the safety of the clients we serve, both in the residential setting and during community outings.
  • They are mentors and caregivers for youth in the program. They create a supportive environment, where youth receive help with academics, encouragement in pursing individual interest/hobbies and if needed learn ways to address behavioral issues.
  • Milieu Counselors help adolescent youth, (14 – 17 years of age) become acquainted with American culture, language and customs. The youth primarily arrive from Latin American countries, occasionally from other countries such as South East Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa.
  • Creating a culturally inclusive environment in which the youth can feel supported. Bi-cultural and bilingual speaking applicants are encouraged to apply!

What are we looking for?

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • One year of youth experience. Or a combination of education and experience related to working with youth.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and Outlook
  • At least 21 years of age


Valued Experience:

  • Bilingual Spanish abilities highly preferred (verbal communication skills)


Other Requirements:

  • Pass a DHS criminal history background
  • Valid Driver’s License

Schedules Available:
Swing: Wednesday-Saturday 1pm-11:30pm
Overnight: Wednesday -Saturday 9:30pm-8am


Starting Pay Range:

(Dependent on experience)

Youth Care Worker (Milieu Counselor): $18.08- $ 19.23
Bilingual in Spanish: $19.70- $21.46

$2/hour shift differential added to your pay for hours worked between 3:00 pm and 7:00 am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (must work 4 hours in the shift that falls within this daily range).
