Overview


Consumer Reports , one of the world’s most influential mission-driven testing and media organizations, reaches more than 6 million members a month through its digital and print media platforms. We’re looking for a writer/reporter/content packager who can develop consumer-facing content on a variety of topics, including home, autos, health, and babies.


Reporting to the Managing Editor, Rapid Response Team, you will help with CR’s audience growth by producing content with a focus on younger and more diverse audiences. We want this content creator to showcase the product testing, real-life evaluation, and expertise CR is famous for, and also report on the trends that may affect readers right now.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 80%. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of one of our main office locations (Yonkers, NY, Washington DC, Colchester CT).


How You'll Make An Impact


How You'll Make an Impact:


You will have the opportunity to provide high-impact service to readers by combining your product-evaluation, reporting, and packaging talents with the data and expertise from CR’s lab testing, survey, and statistics teams.


The writer will also collaborate with our social and audience engagement teams to engage with diverse audiences and listen for consumer insights, perspectives, and questions that matter to them and their communities. As Writer/Editor, you will also:


  • Ensure that all content is relevant, timely, and cutting-edge
  • Identify trends and products within CR's areas of focus in home/appliance, food/health, and electronics
  • Help create the visual and digital-first reviews and articles to share our findings
  • Design the testing methodology to compare products


About You


You’ll Be Highly Rated If:


  • You have your finger on the pulse of the products people are talking about. You will help write and/or coordinate evaluations of new and emerging products of high interest to CR’s target audiences. Would work cross-departmentally with other Content Development and Testing colleagues.
  • You are an ideas person . You are comfortable pitching compelling stories.
  • You can repackage and repurpose existing content of high interest to target audiences.
  • You are deadline driven. You are organized and able to meet rigid deadlines.
  • You are an experienced consumer-first journalist. You are a highly motivated, enterprising content creator with at least five years’ experience working for a consumer-facing publication with a multimedia footprint.
  • You are skilled in collecting and interpreting data. You are able to use internal and external data, to create the most accurate and in-context story possible.
  • You meet your audience of readers where they are. You have experience creating content for diverse consumer cultures and delivering relevant information and service back to them.
  • You understand collaboration is key. You value the contribution of all internal resource groups from Marketing’s Audience Growth and Analytics team to our Advocacy, Survey, and Communications teams in order to maximize audience growth and consumer impact.

  • You are always thinking about Social and how promoting content in different ways results in increased engagement on the social platform and increased traffic to CR.org.
  • You are data-driven and understand how data and market information are used to identify products that are trending.
  • You have worked with page design platforms like K4 or CQ. Google Docs and Google Sheets experience is highly beneficial.
  • You can be camera-ready. You’re comfortable acting as an on-camera subject matter expert, if needed, for all CR video platforms. You may also be asked to execute rough drafts of scripts.

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE


At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $102.1K to $110K. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
