Job Description

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
The Workforce Accommodations Specialist I will work closely with the employee, healthcare provider and employer to explore workplace accommodations that will assist the employee in performing the essential functions of their job.

The ADA Specialist I will work to develop their knowledge and understanding of the comprehensive management of the ADA Accommodation lifecycle including Initial Request, Medical Certification, Essential Job Functions, Interactive Process, Evaluation of RTW Accommodations, Employer’s Decision to Accommodate, Follow-up for Success, On-going Communication, System Tracking, and Robust Reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Documents the employee’s request for accommodation and facilitates the interactive process between the employee and their employer to determine the most effective accommodation.
  • Engages with medical vendors, when needed, to clarify and validate the request for accommodation.
  • Manages a caseload of open accommodation requests, with guidance and oversight.
  • Responsible for engaging employees, medical professionals, supervisors, and HR Business Partners to assist employees with disabilities who require workplace accommodations.
  • Evaluates requests for accommodations under the ADA.
  • Responsible and accountable for maintaining and protecting personal health information. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and abide by HIPPA rules and regulations.
  • Develops an understanding and working knowledge of both State and Federal laws and regulations surrounding the ADA and other relevant legislation
  • Other assignments as delegated by the ADA leadership team
  • Develops an understanding and working knowledge of ADA to be able to relay the appropriate ADA information and education to employers and employees.
  • Partners with the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) to explore effective accommodation options.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Related Experience

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and multi-task are required
  • Experience with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and familiarity with FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act is preferred.
  • Sound facilitation skills are required.
  • Analytical skills are required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: RTW Services, Labor Relations, Absence Management, Disability Claim Management, Project Management is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently are required.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

When used in the description below, the following terms are defined as:
“Occasional”: done only from time to time, but necessary when it is performed
“Frequent”: regularly performed; generally an act that is required on a daily basis
“Continuous”: typically performed for the majority of an employee’s shift

Sitting for prolonged periods of time, frequently standing, walking distances up to one mile, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, occasionally lifting 25lbs, extensive typing, picking up and holding small objecting and otherwise using primarily the fingers rather than the entire hand. Employee is required to have visual acuity sufficient to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing notes; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. Employee is required to have hearing sufficient to understand verbal instruction and answer telephones.
